REP. CHIEWOLO DONATES US$1,000 FOR RENOVATION OF ZORZOR WOMEN’S HALL LATRINE

ZORZOR CITY, LOFA COUNTY — Representative Augustine B. Chiewolo of Electoral District #5 has donated US$1,000 toward the renovation and improvement of the latrine at the Zorzor Women’s Activities Hall.

The contribution was presented to the Zorzor City Mayor and the leadership of the Zorzor women as initial support to rehabilitate the existing facility, which has deteriorated over the years.

The donation is expected to support the improvement of the sanitation facility and provide a cleaner, safer, and more suitable environment for women and other users of the hall.

Rep. Chiewolo has also expressed his commitment to providing additional support as the renovation progresses, depending on the needs of the project.

Prior to becoming a lawmaker, Rep. Chiewolo, through the Friends of Chiewolo (FOC), supported the construction of the existing latrine before 2017.

Renovation work is expected to commence soon under the coordination of the Zorzor City authorities and the leadership of the women.

The Press Union of Liberia (PUL), Lofa County Chapter, has expressed deep sorrow over the death of Mr. Joseph K. Nyandibo, commonly known as “Lofa Eye.”

The Union says the death has been confirmed by family members and media colleagues in Lower Lofa County.

According to family sources, Mr. Nyandibo had traveled to Lofa County to attend the burial of his late brother in Mbaloma Town, Lukambeh District. He reportedly became ill upon arrival on Sunday and was rushed to Gondorlahun Clinic, where he was pronounced dead.

Mr. Nyandibo was the Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Lofa Eye Newspaper. He was also recognized for his contribution to the media landscape in Lofa County and Liberia and for mentoring journalists in news writing and professional reporting.

The PUL Lofa Chapter extends its deepest condolences to his bereaved family, relatives, friends, colleagues, and all those who knew and worked with him.

The Union prays that God grants the bereaved family strength, comfort, and peace during this difficult period.

Sorlumba Border Calm After Liberia-Guinea Security Dialogue.

FOYA, Lofa County August 10,2026— The situation at the Sorlumba Border between Liberia and Guinea is reported calm following a peaceful dialogue between Liberian and Guinean security personnel.

The development follows reports on Sunday that Guinean soldiers had asked officers of the Liberian Immigration Service to leave their position near the border.

Foya District authorities visited the area Monday morning and engaged both sides.

Sorlumba Township Commissioner Harris Domah said the two sides held a peaceful discussion and agreed to maintain peace and peaceful coexistence.

Authorities also observed that the Guinean military had changed its commander and deployed a new team of soldiers at the border.

The new commander was briefed on the longstanding peaceful relationship between Liberian and Guinean security personnel in the area.

Following the engagement, Guinean soldiers returned to their position, while LIS officers remained at their assigned post.

Local authorities say the border remains calm, with both sides agreeing to avoid actions that could create tension between Liberia and Guinea.

“The Kissi Land Must Keep Holding Together”_ Minister Nyumalin Calls for Unity and Forgiveness.

“There came a time in our history when some of our own Kissi people said that a Kissi man was not fit to be President. Others argued that it was not yet the right time for a Kissi man to lead the nation.

They fought us, suppressed us, and attacked us. But fortunately for us, and contrary to what they thought and said, we have a Kissi man serving as President of the Republic of Liberia today, and he is performing exceptionally well.

As a Kissi community, we are very proud. Whatever President Joseph Nyumah Boakai is doing today reflects not only on him as an individual, but also on his tribe and our people.

Therefore, we must continue to hold together as one people.

To everyone we may have offended while supporting the presidency of President Boakai, we say we are sorry. And to those who also offended us while pursuing their interests, today, on behalf of President Boakai, we say you are forgiven.

Let us put the past behind us and continue to work together in peace and unity.

There was joy in Massabolahun Town on Saturday as the Chairman of the Liberia Telecommunications Authority (LTA), Hon. Clarence K. Massaquoi, pledged 100 bags of cement to help complete the town's central mosque.

The cement will be used to plaster the walls of the mosque, bringing the project closer to completion and giving the Muslim community a better place to worship.

Chairman Massaquoi made the pledge during a visit to the town on August 8, where he met with religious leaders, elders, and residents.

Residents thanked the LTA Chairman for what they described as his continued support to the community. They said this is not the first time he has stepped in to help, pointing to his earlier contribution toward the construction of the women's traditional building.

Speaking on behalf of the elders, Alhaji Salia Konneh thanked Chairman Massaquoi for the donation and prayed for God's continued protection, wisdom, and blessings over his life.

"We are really proud of you because you are a true leader," the elders said as they praised his humility, generosity, and willingness to support community development.

Many residents believe the donation will speed up work on the mosque and serve as another example of the importance of supporting community-driven development projects.

LCU, Ahmadu Bello University Sign Academic Cooperation Agreement to Strengthen Faculty Development

ZARIA, KADUNA STATE, NIGERIA — Lofa County University (LCU) has signed a landmark academic cooperation agreement with Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) in Nigeria, opening new opportunities for advanced studies, faculty development, research, and institutional capacity building.

The agreement was signed at the conclusion of a four-day visit to Ahmadu Bello University by Dr. Isaac P. Podah, President and CEO of Lofa County University, and the University's Vice President for Institutional Development Momo Taylor.

During the four-day engagement in Nigeria, the LCU leadership delegation toured ABU's academic and learning facilities, held discussions with university officials, and assessed the institution's postgraduate programmes, academic infrastructure, research environment, and capacity to support the professional development of LCU faculty.

The visit culminated in the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), establishing a framework for academic cooperation between the two institutions.

LCU President and CEO Dr. Isaac P. Podah signed the agreement on behalf of Lofa County University, while Professor Adamu Ahmed, Vice-Chancellor of Ahmadu Bello University, signed on behalf of ABU.

The partnership had earlier received the approval of the LCU Board in March, following discussions and institutional processes that identified faculty development as a key priority in strengthening the university's academic and research capacity.

Partnership to Advance Faculty Qualifications.

Under the agreement, qualified LCU faculty members will have opportunities to pursue Master's and PhD. programs at Ahmadu Bello University in selected academic disciplines.

The initial phase of the partnership places particular emphasis on the Faculty of Agriculture and the College of Engineering, two areas considered critical to LCU's academic growth and contribution to Liberia's development

⚽ ZORZOR COMMUNITY LEAGUE 2026 SET FOR KICK-OFF

The Zorzor Sports Lovers for Sports Development, under the theme “Promoting Unity Through Sports,” has released regulations for the 2026 Zorzor Community League.

Registration runs August 7–12, 2026, with a L$1,500 registration fee per community. Each team can register up to 15 players, including a maximum of three Third Division players from the same club.

Eight communities are expected to participate, with matches scheduled for Saturdays and Sundays. The semifinals will follow the group matches, while the final is set for Monday, August 24, 2026.

The organizing committee is headed by Benjamin S. Lablah, with the regulations approved by District Sports Director Nathaniel J. Kollie

There is excitement in Foya District after Minister of Local Government, Hon. Francis Sakillah Nyumalin, donated 30 motorbikes to commercial motorcyclists and residents.

The donation is expected to make transportation easier for many people while also giving beneficiaries a chance to improve their livelihoods.

Out of the 30 motorbikes, 15 will go to commercial motorcyclists and will be shared among the different motorcycle bases in Foya. The other 15 will be given to selected residents, although the names of those beneficiaries have not yet been announced.

For many people in Foya, motorcycles are more than just a means of transportation. They are a source of income and one of the fastest ways to connect communities, especially in areas where road conditions can make travel difficult.

Many residents believe the donation will help strengthen transportation services and create more opportunities for those who receive the motorbikes.

The names of the remaining beneficiaries and other details about the distribution are expected to be announced later.

EU-Funded SCALES Project Strengthens Community Capacity on Land Rights and Economic Security in Salayea

Salayea District, Lofa County – Community members from Salayea District have begun benefiting from a training under the European Union-funded Strengthening Community Actions for Land and Economic Security (SCALES) project, aimed at improving knowledge of land rights, economic empowerment, and peaceful community development.

The training, organized by the Development Education Network-Liberia (DEN-L) in partnership with the Rights and Rice Foundation (RRF), JSGB & Associates Legal Services for Women and Children, and the Liberia Land Authority (LLA), brought together local residents, community leaders, women, and youth to strengthen their understanding of Liberia's land laws and sustainable livelihood opportunities.

Speaking during the training, Moses B. Kollie, one of the facilitators, said the project seeks to empower communities with the knowledge and skills needed to protect their land rights while promoting economic opportunities and peaceful coexistence.

According to him, strengthening community awareness is essential to preventing land disputes and ensuring that citizens understand their rights and responsibilities under Liberia's Land Rights Act.

He emphasized that the SCALES project also encourages community participation in decision-making, promotes gender inclusion, and supports initiatives that improve household incomes through local economic activities.

Participants welcomed the training, describing it as timely and beneficial.

One participant, Mrs. Deddeh Kollie Karmo, said the training had increased her understanding of land rights and community development. She noted that the knowledge gained would help her educate others in her community and encourage peaceful resolution of disputes.

Another participant, James K. Badabu, expressed appreciation to the organizers for bringing the training to Salayea District. He said the information shared would help participants make informed decisions on land-related matters and improve cooperation among community members.

The SCALES project is a three-year initiative funded by the European Union and is being implemented in B**g, Lofa, and Nimba Counties. The project seeks to strengthen civil society organizations and local communities by promoting secure land rights, economic resilience, and inclusive development, with particular attention to women, youth, and vulnerable groups.

Organizers expressed optimism that participants will share the knowledge acquired with others in their respective communities, contributing to stronger local governance, reduced land conflicts, and improved livelihoods across the district.
