LOFA COUNTY UNIVERSITY BOARD OF TRUSTEES RETREAT APPROVES STRATEGIC POLICIES AND PARTNERSHIPS
Gbarnga, B**g County - In a significant advancement for the institution, the Board of Trustees of Lofa County University (LCU) concluded a two-day strategic retreat on Friday, March 14, 2026. The retreat, attended by senior administrative officials and Board Members, including LCU Alumni Association President Mr. Amos Fallah Kpalia, resulted in the approval of key policies and strategic partnerships aimed at fostering institutional growth.
The retreat, held in Gbarnga, B**g County, focused on enhancing governance, academic standards, and financial management. During the sessions, the Board deliberated on and approved nineteen out of twenty-one proposed policies and authorized two Memorandum of Understanding.
The Board approved an academic cooperation agreement with Ahmadu Bello University in Zaria, Nigeria. This partnership will enable faculty members, particularly from the College of Agriculture and Engineering, to pursue advanced studies and professional development opportunities in Nigeria, as LCU President Dr. Isaac Podah is scheduled to travel to Nigeria to formalize this agreement, which is expected to significantly enhance LCU's academic and research capabilities.
For the first time, a comprehensive Financial Policy was approved by the Board. This document establishes a structured framework for financial decision-making, delineates the responsibilities of policymakers, and outlines procedures for fund requests and disbursements. It includes guidelines for petty cash management and implements accountability measures to promote transparency and fiscal responsibility.
The Board reviewed a proposal for LCU to assume control of the Change Agent Network University in Fessibu Town, Zorzor District, as an annex campus. This initiative responds to appeals from citizens of Zorzor and Salayea Districts, emphasizing the need for accessible higher education in Upper Lofa. The assets of the facility are valued at over US$450,000. While generally supportive of the proposal, the Board directed the university administration to engage with relevant government agencies and the Lofa County Legislative Caucus to ensure compliance with national procedures.
The second day of the retreat also addressed additional critical issues, including the formulation of a dedicated policy to govern the institution. These discussions form part of LCU's broader institutional reform agenda.
The Lofa County University Alumni Association LCUAA commends the Board of Trustees and university administration for their visionary leadership and dedication. Their efforts in strengthening governance, promoting academic excellence, and pursuing strategic initiatives are vital to the continued development and rising prominence of Lofa County University.
The LCUAA is an organization of graduates committed to supporting the development of Lofa County University through advocacy, networking, and resource mobilization. The association seeks to foster a lifelong community of alumni dedicated to the advancement of Lofa County and Liberia.
