FTI and UNDP Empower Sustainable Development: A New Motorcycle for "Leh Go Green"
Tubmanburg, Bomi County, Liberia, Today, November 8, 2024, the Forestry Training Institute (FTI) administration, under the leadership of ED Joel Gamys, and with the generous support of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), made a significant contribution to sustainable development in Liberia by dedicating a brand new TVS Star motorcycle to Mr. Ezekiel Dolo, the Project Coordinator of the "Leh Go Green" initiative in Bomi County.
The dedication ceremony, held at the FTI Campus, marked a pivotal moment for the "Leh Go Green" project, which aims to promote environmental conservation and economic empowerment through sustainable cane rat farming. By providing this essential transportation tool, FTI and UNDP have empowered the project team to expand their reach, enhance operational efficiency, and accelerate progress towards their goals.
The "Leh Go Green" Initiative: A UNDP-Funded Endeavor
The "Leh Go Green" project is a groundbreaking initiative, proudly funded by UNDP, that seeks to address multiple challenges facing rural communities in Liberia, including poverty, deforestation, and food insecurity. By promoting the breeding and commercialization of cane rats, a highly nutritious and sustainable protein source, the project offers a promising pathway to economic prosperity and environmental sustainability.
Key objectives of the "Leh Go Green" project include but not limited to
* Conservation of Natural Resources: By encouraging sustainable farming practices, the project helps to protect forests and other natural habitats.
* Economic Empowerment: The commercialization of cane rats provides a lucrative income-generating opportunity for farmers, particularly women and youth.
* Food Security: The project contributes to food security by increasing the availability of affordable and nutritious protein.
* Community Development: By fostering sustainable livelihoods and promoting environmental awareness, the project contributes to the overall development of rural communities.
A Partnership for Sustainable Development
The dedication of the motorcycle to the "Leh Go Green" project symbolizes the strong partnership between FTI and UNDP in advancing sustainable development goals. By combining FTI's technical expertise with UNDP's financial and programmatic support, this partnership is driving positive change in rural Liberia.
As the "Leh Go Green" project continues to expand its operations to Bomi, Lofa, and Grand Gedeh Counties, it is anticipated that the new motorcycle, provided by FTI and UNDP, will significantly enhance the project's ability to achieve its objectives. By facilitating timely transportation, the motorcycle will enable project staff to conduct regular field visits, provide technical assistance to farmers, and monitor the progress of cane rat breeding and commercialization activities.
Through this collaborative effort, FTI, UNDP, and the "Leh Go Green" project are working together to build a more sustainable, equitable, and prosperous future for Liberia.
