FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Commuter Students Association Debunks Viral Bus Breakdown Claims

By: Commuter Students Association Media Team
May 26, 2026

The Chairman of the Commuter Students Association (CSA) of Cuttington University, Matthew Urey Williams, has strongly dismissed as false, misleading, and politically motivated the viral social media claims alleging that the bus recently donated to the association by Prince Kermue Moye Sr. broke down and had to be push-started due to mechanical failure.

Speaking to FrontPage Cuttington on Tuesday, Mr. Williams clarified that the vehicle did not experience any mechanical defect or technical breakdown as being falsely portrayed on Facebook and other social media platforms.

According to him, the incident occurred after the bus battery drained earlier this morning because the newly assigned driver accidentally left the vehicle’s operating system on overnight after returning from a student transport exercise.

Mr. Williams explained that the assigned driver at Cuttington University is still undergoing orientation and practical training regarding the full operational system of the newly acquired bus. He noted that after transporting a group of students to Gbarnga for a test drive and assessment exercise, the driver unknowingly left the system active upon returning to campus, which eventually caused the battery to run low.

“The bus is in excellent condition and remains fully operational,” Mr. Williams stated. “What happened this morning was simply a low-battery situation, not a mechanical breakdown as some individuals are deliberately attempting to portray online.”

He further disclosed that the professional driver and technician who delivered the bus during the official donation ceremony had earlier recommended that a designated university driver be trained alongside him to fully understand the bus system and operational procedures. However, that arrangement was not completed before his departure.

The CSA Chairman revealed that representatives from the company that supplied the bus visited the campus today to inspect the vehicle and continue operational guidance for the university’s assigned driver. Following their assessment, they confirmed that the bus had no mechanical issues and that the battery had merely drained.

According to Mr. Williams, because a spare battery was not immediately available at the time, a few nearby students and staff briefly assisted in pushing the bus, which had been parked on a slight incline, to help restart the engine. He emphasized that the process lasted less than a minute and should not be misrepresented as evidence of vehicle failure.

It is unfortunate that some individuals rushed to spread misinformation without verifying the facts, he added. “We encourage members of the public to avoid being misled by false narratives designed to undermine a meaningful initiative intended to benefit students.

Mr. Williams reaffirmed the association’s deep appreciation to Senator Prince Kermue Moye Sr. for what he described as a historic and impactful contribution toward improving transportation for commuter students at Cuttington University.

He stressed that the bus continues to effectively serve its intended purpose by easing transportation challenges faced by students traveling between campus and surrounding communities.

“The Commuter Students Association remains grateful for this support, and we want the public to know that the bus is strong, functional, and actively serving students,” Mr. Williams concluded.

The CSA Media Team is therefore calling on the public, students, supporters, and members of the university community to disregard all misleading reports and fake social media narratives surrounding the incident.
