Strengthening Measurement Skills: Indicator Development in Action

Participants of the Comprehensive Monitoring & Evaluation (M&E) Program – Cohort 14 at Gonet Academy successfully completed a practical exercise on indicator identification and matching, using the case study: “Youth Skills and Employment Project – Montserrado County”.

📌 From Results to Measurement
Building on their understanding of the results framework, participants worked in groups to:
✔️ Identify relevant indicators for project results
✔️ Match indicators to the correct levels:
- Outputs
- Outcomes
- Impact
✔️ Justify their choices using results-based logic

This exercise challenged participants to move beyond theory and think critically about: “How do we measure whether a project is actually working?”

📌 Outstanding Group Performance
Across all groups, participants achieved an impressive 95% overall performance, demonstrating strong understanding of indicator classification, improved ability to link results with measurement, and increased confidence in applying M&E concepts.

📌 Facilitated Reflection: Deepening Understanding
Following the exercise, a structured facilitated reflection session reinforced key learning points, particularly the clear distinction between:
✔️Output indicators (what is delivered)
✔️Outcome indicators (what changes)
✔️ Impact indicators (long-term difference)
✔️ The importance of ensuring that project logic align with the corresponding indicators

Participants recognized that a well-designed project is not only about activities and outputs, but about measuring meaningful change through the right indicators.

On yesterday, April 24, 2026, participants of the Gonet Academy Occupational Health, Safety & Environmental Management (OHSM) Comprehensive & Certificate Programs – Cohort 14 had an impactful professional learning visit to the Mount Coffee Hydropower Plant in Montserrado County.

From the visitor induction led by the Safety Manager, to hands-on exposure at the Central Control Room, turbine systems, and solar plant, participants gained practical insights into health, safety, and environmental (HSE) standards in real-world operations.
