🇧🇼 Botswana’s President Declines White House Invitation, Calls for Talks on African Soil
Botswana’s President Duma Gideon Boko has reportedly declined an invitation to visit the White House, making it clear that discussions involving Botswana’s resources should happen inside Botswana — not abroad.
According to the president, the country is no longer willing to travel overseas to negotiate deals tied to its own natural wealth. Instead, he urged international partners to come directly to Botswana if they are genuinely interested in doing business.
“If there is any business to discuss, it should take place in Botswana,” Boko stated.
Framing the decision as a matter of national dignity and commercial fairness, Boko argued that in normal business practice, buyers should approach sellers, not the other way around.
Botswana — one of Africa’s leading diamond producers — appears to be signaling a more assertive stance on sovereignty, resource control, and how global partnerships with African nations are conducted. Analysts say the move reflects a growing shift among African leaders pushing for negotiations on more equal footing.

Harper City, Maryland County🇱🇷
Harper is one of Liberia’s oldest coastal cities, founded in 1834 by freed African-American settlers under the Maryland-in-Africa project.
It later became the capital of Maryland County and was once the capital of the Republic of Maryland, before joining Liberia.
Built along the Atlantic Ocean, Harper grew as an important port for trade and fishing.
The city’s old churches, schools, and government buildings reflect a strong blend of American-style architecture and African heritage.
Harper is also home to the Grebo people, the original inhabitants of the land. Over time, cultures mixed, shaping the unique identity the city carries today.
Quiet, historic, and ocean-facing, Harper remains one of Liberia’s most beautiful cities, a place where history still lives by the water.

Today We want to take you on a quick trip back in time to one of Liberia’s most historic but often overlooked gems — Hotel Africa in Virginia, just outside Monrovia.
Built in the 1970s under President William R. Tolbert Jr., Hotel Africa was more than just a hotel, it was a symbol of Liberia’s optimism and growing presence on the African stage.
Its biggest moment came in 1979 when it hosted the Organisation of African Unity (OAU) conference, welcoming leaders from across the continent and shining a spotlight on Liberia as a place of diplomacy and unity.
Back then, the hotel was a seaside marvel — lavish villas, elegant halls, and stunning ocean views, a place for national pride and celebration.
But history had other plans. After Tolbert’s overthrow in 1980 and the decades of civil war that followed, the hotel fell into neglect, looting, and disuse, like many other parts of our nation.
In recent years, the Government of Liberia has been working to reclaim and redevelop the property, aiming to breathe new life into this historic landmark and restore it as a centerpiece of tourism and investment.
Hotel Africa stands today not just as a building, but as a reminder of dreams, resilience, and the power of heritage.
