This week, a group of Teach For Liberia staff and Cohort 6 Fellows attended ActionAid’s Second Annual National People’s Climate Justice Summit. This year’s theme focused on “Just Transition: Scaling Agroecology, Clean Energy, People-Driven Climate Finance, and Sustainable Solutions for Liberia.” The Summit emphasized the importance of inclusive, sustainable approaches to climate resilience and climate justice.

When asked which part of the Summit impacted him most, Cohort 6 Fellow M. Kissiba Kamara shared that a quote from the final panel resonated deeply with him, as it reflected the community-centered education work he and his colleagues practice daily. Trained to incorporate design thinking into their teaching, he noted:

“The people who are affected by climate change and disasters also have solutions; therefore, empower local people to address climate change challenges.”

The Teach For Liberia team thanks ActionAid Liberia for two impactful days of learning and dialogue and we look forward to applying the insights and resources gained to further strengthen our climate education and leadership initiatives across Liberia.

Teach For Liberia has successfully concluded this year’s Nation Building Entrepreneurship Incubator Award Ceremony!

The competition empowers Teach For Liberia alumni entrepreneurs with resources, visibility, and mentorship to advance innovative, nation-building solutions.

This year featured four outstanding alumni who pitched impactful social enterprises over a dynamic three months. As shared last week, Abigail S. Togba emerged as the winner with her sustainable fashion venture, Revive Wear Liberia. She won a cash prize and additional funds to register her business.

In a powerful show of collective support, an anonymous donor provided financial assistance to the three non-winning participants to also help them register their businesses. This ensured that every venture can move forward formally and legally - making all applicants winners!

The other alumni participants presented impactful ventures:

• Upton Yates, founder of Komaton Printing Press, offering general printing services and free training opportunities for high school students.

• Solomon P. Davis, founder of RISE, a social enterprise advancing educational empowerment for girls and expanding access to learning.

• Jerry Kwenah, founder of Integrated Agricultural Solutions, focused on improving food production, promoting sustainable farming, and supporting smallholder farmers.

All four alumni entrepreneurs will also receive ongoing professional mentorship to strengthen their ventures and expand their impact.

We extend sincere thanks to our panel of judges for their time and expertise: Dr. Sonja Francis (Ephesians2ten), Secretary General Catherine Karmo (Liberia Chamber of Commerce), and Director Stephina Warner (UL UniPod Innovation Hub).

We proudly support alumni-led innovation that drives sustainable solutions to help our national development.

Teach For Liberia began the week at the Ministry of Education’s Educate HER Coalition Stakeholders’ Dialogue on implementing the National Policy on Girls’ Education and launching the national Report and Scorecard on girls’ education progress.

Addressing the preliminary findings, Minister of Education Dr. Jarso M. Jallah reminded us that “these results are not a verdict, they are a starting point… Girls’ education is a right and our country’s duty.”

Liberia has reached gender parity in classroom enrollment, yet many girls still drop out during the transition from 6th to 7th grade. Over the two-day dialogue, the data made clear that challenges remain in on time enrollment, retention, completion, and the infrastructure needed to support girls’ learning.

The youth leaders in the room were outstanding, reminding everyone that students must always be part of the conversation. Their voices and the engagement of all stakeholders reinforced that Teach For Liberia’s commitment to gender equity and the work of STRONGirls are aligned with what our country needs most.

We are grateful for this learning opportunity and remain committed to being part of the collective effort to ensure every girl learns, leads, and thrives.

Nation Building with Teach For Liberia

A real highlight of Teach For Liberia's time at was the opportunity to spend the day with and support our Cohort 4 Alumni and former STRONGirls Facilitator, Abigail S. Togba.

Abigail is our 2025 Nation Building with Teach For Liberia Entrepreneurship Incubator winner. Abigail won with her Revive Wear Liberia project to utilize fabric scraps to create stylish and sustainable fashion.

Abigail and her team showcased her RWL project upcycled t-shirts and bags as well as her Abi's African Closet designs

We are all super proud of her efforts and we love every opportunity to support the success of our Alumni.

The Teach For Liberia STRONGirls had the amazing opportunity to serve as one of the sponsors and vendor participants at this Sunday. We extend our sincere thanks for the enriching speakers, the fun-filled atmosphere, and the chance to expose our staff, Fellows, and students to such an inclusive celebration of women and girls. It was a truly inspiring event centered on empowerment, personal growth, and self-care. We look forward to seeing more initiatives like this in the future!

Our staff and active Fellows from Montserrado and Margibi volunteered throughout the event, while our Gibraltar STRONGirls Club student representatives proudly manned the TFL booth - selling the tie-dye items they created last Monday with support from our TFL Coaches (see prior post). It was a meaningful learning experience for the entire team.

At the core of the TFL STRONGirls program is our belief that, you cannot be what you cannot see. Our STRONG Liberian girls need STRONG Liberian women role models - both in their classrooms and in their communities. Through this program, we are committed to advancing gender equity in education while equipping girls with essential social-emotional development tools and vocational skills.

We want our STRONGirls to grow, lead, and thrive! 💪🏿

Teach For Liberia extends heartfelt gratitude to UniPod Liberia for inviting our CEO, AA Caesar , to speak to participants of the Digital Fabrication Boot Camp on design thinking and the power of I CAN.

AA reminded participants that:

“We can’t sit around and complain; we Liberians are capable… Sustainable change must come from the end users. We can be the ones to design solutions to help our country.”

She also highlighted TFL’s Cohort 6 Fellows, including 3 Design For Change (DFC) UniPod Fellows among the 19 active DFC Liberia Fellows serving across 4 counties. These Fellows are committed to empowering students through design thinking to create sustainable solutions to issues like climate change and waste management.

Thank you, UniPod Liberia, for investing in the next generation of Liberian innovators.
