The Head of the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) Liberia Office, Dale Gbotoe, has announced the results of the 2026 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) highlighting strong performances in several core subjects.

Gbotoe said Mathematics recorded the highest passing rate among the major academic subjects, with 44,671 of the 54,135 candidates passing, representing 82.5 percent.
Economics followed with 42,076 passes from 53,289 candidates, giving a pass rate of 78.96 percent, while Geography recorded 43,136 passes out of 54,870 candidates, representing 78.62 percent.
English Language registered 42,036 passes from 55,592 candidates, for a pass rate of 75.62 percent. Chemistry posted a 75.24 percent pass rate, with 37,963 of 50,454 candidates passing, while History recorded 37,940 passes from 51,155 candidates, representing 74.17 percent.
Biology saw 37,223 of 52,894 candidates pass, resulting in a 72.37 percent pass rate, while Physics recorded 36,374 passes from 50,523 candidates, representing 71.97 percent.
Literature-in-English recorded the lowest performance among the academic subjects, with 16,505 of 51,606 candidates passing, for a pass rate of 31.98 percent.
Meanwhile, all candidates who sat technical and vocational subjects, including Auto Mechanics, Blocklaying and Concrete Works, Plumbing and Pipefitting, Technical Drawing, and Welding and Fabrication Engineering Craft Practice, successfully passed, giving those subjects a 100 percent pass rate.
WAEC has meanwhile encouraged more schools to promote technical and vocational education as part of efforts to strengthen skills development across the country.
