University of Liberia (UL) President Dr. Layli Maparyan on Tuesday urged faculty and staff to call off their strike and continue constructive dialogue with the UL administration and other stakeholders, particularly the Government of Liberia.

President Maparyan acknowledged that the concerns raised in recent resolutions by the University of Liberia Faculty Association (ULFA) and the University of Liberia Staff Association (ULSA) are legitimate.

She said her administration is working with the Board of Trustees, the Government of Liberia, and the faculty and staff to address issues ranging from employee welfare to infrastructure challenges.

The University of Liberia held a two-day workshop this week to validate a proposed bachelor’s degree curriculum in Marine Science and Conservation, a program that will be housed within the Department of Fisheries.

The program seeks to train graduates to manage and conserve Liberia’s marine and coastal ecosystems, blending strong theoretical science with hands-on practical experience, including laboratory work, field studies, a geo-information system (GIS), remote sensing, an internship, and a final-year research thesis.

A delegation from the African American Male Education Network and Development (A2 MEND) visited the University of Liberia on Monday, June 29, to explore partnerships aimed at strengthening educational exchanges, cultural tourism, and youth mentorship across borders.
According to A2 MEND, the visit is designed to convert shared educational ideals into concrete programs, including student exchange opportunities, mentorship pathways, and cultural initiatives that connect young people internationally.
