+Girls' Education Cardinal To Nation-Building
--Female Muslim Scholar Emphasizes
Asta Kaba and students of United African Arabic school
A female Muslim Scholar and a Mathematic Curriculum Specialist at the Ministry of Education, Asta Kaba has emphasized the need for girls' education in postwar Liberia.
She explained that when a woman is educated, she will duly be an asset to the state.
She made the suggestion in an exclusive interview with this paper yesterday on the campus of the United African Arabic School on Randall Street.
According to her, girls' education is very important to postwar Liberia's recovery drive after many years of civil war that destroyed every fabric of the Liberian society.
Kaba maintained that when a girl is educated, she will positively contribute her quotas to the country's rebuilding process and the society in general.
She went on explaining that the basic reason for which the United African Arabic School was established is to provide education to the less fortunate children most especially Muslim girls children who traditional back grounds consider the girl child only as house wives and not woman who need to acquire education.
Narrating her ordeal, she said as a child, her family also wanted her to engage into early childhood marriage, but added that based on her determination to acquire sound and quality education, her father later gave his support which has today given her the opportunity to become the first and only educated woman in family.
She is meanwhile appealing to parents both of the Christian and Muslim faiths to do away with early childhood marriage and prioritize their girl children education for the betterment of the Liberian society.
