The Physician Assistant (PA) Department of the Nakita D. Forh School of Medical & Health Sciences at the Bushrod College of Science and Technology (BTech) on Friday, December 12, 2025, joined the rest of the world in celebrating Nutrition Day.

The program, held under the theme โ€œThe Foundation of Our Life Lies in Our Plate,โ€ was organized by Year-1, semester-2 students of the Physician Assistant Department. The celebration aimed to raise awareness about the importance of proper nutrition and healthy eating habits, particularly among students pursuing careers in the health sciences.

Like previous celebrations, this yearโ€™s observance focused on educating students about making the right food choices for optimal health and wellbeing. The organizers emphasized that good nutrition is essential not only for academic performance but also for long-term physical and mental health.

Delivering the keynote address, Mrs. Cecelia E.S. Flomo, a professional health practitioner in Liberia, explained that nutrition is the science of how the body uses food to grow, remain healthy, and function properly. She stressed that nutrition is the foundation of good health, noting that everything people eat has a direct impact on how they feel, look, and live.

โ€œAs we celebrate Nutrition Day,โ€ Mrs. Flomo reminded the students, โ€œwe must remember that the foundation of our health lies in our plates. Every meal is a choice, and every choice is a step either toward health or away from it. Together, let us build a future where nutrition is not an afterthought, but the first prescription.โ€

The Nutrition Day program, held on the main campus of the Bushrod College of Science and Technology, brought together students from the Physician Assistant and Midwifery Departments, faculty members, instructors, and representatives of the college administration.

As part of the educational activities, the organizing students divided themselves into groups and delivered presentations on key nutritional topics. These included carbohydrates, proteins, lipids (fats), vitamins, minerals, and water, highlighting their functions in the body and the importance of balanced consumption.

The event concluded with renewed calls for students and future healthcare providers to serve as advocates for proper nutrition within their communities, reinforcing the message that healthy living begins with informed food choices.

Nutrition Day is observed in many countries around the world to highlight the importance of proper nutrition and healthy eating habits for overall health and wellbeing. While celebrations vary by country, the day generally serves as a platform to educate the public on balanced diets, food safety, and the role of nutrition in disease prevention.

In many institutions and communities, Nutrition Day is celebrated annually through educational programs, seminars, exhibitions, cooking demonstrations, health talks, and student-led presentations.

Schools, colleges, hospitals, and health training institutions often use the occasion to reinforce the message that good nutrition is essential for growth, productivity, and longevity.

Nutrition Day is celebrated as a reminder that food is not just about filling the stomach, but about nourishing the body, preventing illness, and improving quality of lifeโ€”reinforcing the idea that healthy living begins with informed dietary choices.

Paynesville, Liberia โ€“ December 1, 2025: The Bushrod College of Science and Technology (BTech) on Friday, November 28, 2025, hosted its 4th Graduation Ceremony, conferring degrees on one hundred and six (106) students in various health-related disciplines.

This yearโ€™s graduates came from the Midwifery, Physician Assistant, and Post Basic Health Sciences Departments, earning both Associate and Bachelor of Science degrees.

According to statistics released by the institution, eighty-one (81) students obtained Associate of Science Degrees in Midwifery, sixteen (16) earned Associate of Science Degrees in Physician Assistant Training, while nine (9) completed Bachelor of Science Degrees in Post Basic Health Sciences.

The graduation events began with a Baccalaureate Prayer at the Caldwell Junction Central Mosque, followed by a Christian Baccalaureate Service at the Trinity United Methodist Church in the Borough of New Kru Town. Graduates also participated in an Oath and Honors program at the St. Paul Bridge Town Hall, and later celebrated their class night at the Vick-In Pool in Caldwell.

Parents, faculty members, students, and representatives from the Liberia Board for Nursing and Midwifery and the National Physician Assistant Board of Liberia attended the ceremony.

BTech President, Dr. Edward S. Forh, in his special remarks, said the collegeโ€™s mission is to prepare students for life, success, and service to the country. He disclosed that despite consistent appeals, the institution continues to receive minimal external support, making it difficult to run a university on tuition alone.

โ€œOperating a university on tuition is a near impossibility, especially in a low-economic environment. Meeting monthly wage bills and maintaining operational costs remain major challenges for Bushrod College,โ€ Dr. Forh said.

He noted that the institution continues to support national growth by training healthcare practitioners, many of whom serve in rural counties including Bomi, Grand Cape Mount, Gbarpolu, B**g, Lofa, and Grand Bassa.

Dr. Forh also expressed concern over the limited employment opportunities available for graduates nationwide, describing it as a pressing national issue. He appealed to the government, non-governmental institutions, and international partners to provide financial and scholarship support to students.

He further announced that the college is modernizing its computer laboratory and library and is seeking donations of at least one hundred (100) laptop computers. According to him, completing these projects will enhance digital learning, improve research capabilities, and support midwifery students taking the state board exams administered digitally by the Liberia Board for Nursing and Midwifery.

Delivering the keynote address, Minister of State for Presidential Affairs Samuel A. Stevquoah told the graduates that health care is a calling, not just a job.

He encouraged them to continue learning, maintain integrity, and uphold professionalism, stressing that Liberia needs honest practitioners to strengthen its health sector.

BTech Promotes Religious Tolerance
โ€ฆHosts 4th Graduation Baccalaureate Service at Mosque for Muslim Students

The Bushrod College of Science and Technology (BTech) has officially commenced activities leading to its 4th Graduation Ceremony.

The series of events began on Friday, November 21, 2025, with a special Baccalaureate Prayer held in honor of prospective graduates from the Muslim community. The prayer service, which took place at the Caldwell Junction Central Mosque on the Bushrod Island, brought together several graduating students, faculty members, and representatives of the college administration.

The Muslim graduates expressed deep appreciation to the BTech administration for granting them the opportunity to receive special prayers at their place of worship ahead of their graduation. They described the gesture as a symbol of respect, inclusion, and unity.

According to the students, the administrationโ€™s decision to host the Baccalaureate Prayer at the mosque demonstrates a strong commitment to promoting religious tolerance on campus. They further termed the initiative as a significant milestone in their academic journey and an inspiration for future students of diverse backgrounds.

Meanwhile, the President of the Bushrod College of Science and Technology, Dr. Edward S. Forh, emphasized that the special Baccalaureate Prayer for Muslim students reflects the institutionโ€™s recognition of Liberiaโ€™s religious diversity.

โ€œOne of the core values of the Bushrod College of Science and Technology is diversity. Our graduation activities must reflect that we have a diverse student population that has worked together throughout their academic experience. We do not intend to separate them in the name of religion,โ€ Dr. Forh noted.

He further stated that BTech remains committed to celebrating the unique fabric of Liberiaโ€™s multicultural society, stressing that the institution has moved away from the unwritten tradition of limiting graduation ceremony to a single religious perspective.

As part of the continued recognition of the collegeโ€™s multi-faith student body, the special Baccalaureate Prayer activities will resume on Sunday, November 23, 2025, at the Trinity United Methodist Church in the Borough of New Kru Town. This segment of the program will honor graduating students from the Christian community as they prepare for the official Graduation Ceremony scheduled for Friday, November 28, 2025.
