The Physician Assistant (PA) Department of the Nakita D. Forh School of Medical & Health Sciences at the Bushrod College of Science and Technology (BTech) on Friday, December 12, 2025, joined the rest of the world in celebrating Nutrition Day.
The program, held under the theme โThe Foundation of Our Life Lies in Our Plate,โ was organized by Year-1, semester-2 students of the Physician Assistant Department. The celebration aimed to raise awareness about the importance of proper nutrition and healthy eating habits, particularly among students pursuing careers in the health sciences.
Like previous celebrations, this yearโs observance focused on educating students about making the right food choices for optimal health and wellbeing. The organizers emphasized that good nutrition is essential not only for academic performance but also for long-term physical and mental health.
Delivering the keynote address, Mrs. Cecelia E.S. Flomo, a professional health practitioner in Liberia, explained that nutrition is the science of how the body uses food to grow, remain healthy, and function properly. She stressed that nutrition is the foundation of good health, noting that everything people eat has a direct impact on how they feel, look, and live.
โAs we celebrate Nutrition Day,โ Mrs. Flomo reminded the students, โwe must remember that the foundation of our health lies in our plates. Every meal is a choice, and every choice is a step either toward health or away from it. Together, let us build a future where nutrition is not an afterthought, but the first prescription.โ
The Nutrition Day program, held on the main campus of the Bushrod College of Science and Technology, brought together students from the Physician Assistant and Midwifery Departments, faculty members, instructors, and representatives of the college administration.
As part of the educational activities, the organizing students divided themselves into groups and delivered presentations on key nutritional topics. These included carbohydrates, proteins, lipids (fats), vitamins, minerals, and water, highlighting their functions in the body and the importance of balanced consumption.
The event concluded with renewed calls for students and future healthcare providers to serve as advocates for proper nutrition within their communities, reinforcing the message that healthy living begins with informed food choices.
Nutrition Day is observed in many countries around the world to highlight the importance of proper nutrition and healthy eating habits for overall health and wellbeing. While celebrations vary by country, the day generally serves as a platform to educate the public on balanced diets, food safety, and the role of nutrition in disease prevention.
In many institutions and communities, Nutrition Day is celebrated annually through educational programs, seminars, exhibitions, cooking demonstrations, health talks, and student-led presentations.
Schools, colleges, hospitals, and health training institutions often use the occasion to reinforce the message that good nutrition is essential for growth, productivity, and longevity.
Nutrition Day is celebrated as a reminder that food is not just about filling the stomach, but about nourishing the body, preventing illness, and improving quality of lifeโreinforcing the idea that healthy living begins with informed dietary choices.
