A milestone renovation project involving 4 MCSS schools kicked off today, beginning with Annan F. Whisnant Elementary School.

MCSS Acting Superintendent, Dr. Augurie E. Stevens spearheaded a groundbreaking ceremony today at Annan F. Whisnant Elementary School to begin the renovation of 4 MCSS schools that are in deplorable condition.

The project begins with Annan F. Whisnant Elementary School, while others expected to be renovated include D. Twe Memorial High School, St. Paul Bridge Elementary School, and Monrovia Demonstration Elementary School, respectively.

Speaking at the ceremony, MCSS Board Chair, Mayor John Charuk Siafa, emphasized the importance of taking tangible steps in leadership. “The current look of our schools and our country can and will improve through hope and hard work,” he said. “We are here to tour various MCSS schools and allow our contractors to begin effective renovation work.”

Mayor Siafa commended the MCSS Acting Superintendent Dr. Stevens and her team for their commitment, promising to work closely with them to achieve results together. “We know that every organization faces challenges, but it is important that we take time to address these issues constructively,” he noted.

Highlighting the institution’s priorities, he stressed that while the leadership continues to empower volunteer teachers, attention will also be given to the basic needs of MCSS schools. In closing, Mayor Siafa called on the MCSS Maintenance Department to deploy an expanded sanitation team and pledged his support for a massive cleanup campaign across the school system.

Also speaking at the occasion, MCSS Assistant Superintendent for instruction, Hon. Emmanuel Kyne Robertson said, "We are very grateful at the MCSS. We can assure you and the team at the Mansion, especially President Boakai, that we will do our best to bring the public schools to a standard where the people will be proud to send their children. "

For her part, Dr. Stevens lauded the efforts of her staff, stating that had it not been for their support, she would not have achieved her goal to renovate the schools. "I want to thank my MCSS team. The staff has been very supportive. If it wasn't for the staff, this wouldn't have happened. I love all of them, I care about every staff member here. So, all of us are on board with this. They are excited just as I am. Thank you so much. " Dr. Stevens said. She assured the parents that they will see a new change in the education system for their children, stressing that she believes in action and not plenty talk.

" In the words of President Boakai, True Leaders leave legacy not excuses. History remembers action not words, and that's Dr. Stevens. I am an action woman. Action is my passion. Dr. Stevens averred.

Making a brief remark on behalf of the Ministry of State, Hon. Bill Massaquoi, who is the Senior Technical Analyst in the office of the Minister of State for Presidential Affairs, emphasised the government's commitment to improving the education sector. "Besides the work I do at the Mansion, I also do small small school work in Lofa. So I know the challenges in our schools. It is not just improving the infrastructures, but also the quality of teachers in our classrooms. " Mr. Massaquoi noted.

In closing, Hon. Massaquoi indicated that as one who sits in high-level meetings at the Mansion, he won't hesitate to be an advocate for MCSS.
