THE MINISTER AND HIS AUDIENCE

I was once invited to a village outreach in a predominantly Yoruba town. One of the ministers that ministered before me, started chanting and singing Lawrence Oyor songs. Expectedly, all the villagers sat down and felt disconnected. One of the king's wives came to me that they didn't understand anything.

When it was my turn to minister, I quoted a few passages of the scriptures in Yoruba and sang "Agbara Olorun Po"...then I led a few prayers in Yoruba. Interestingly, the audience felt energized and responded well during my session.
Sometimes, why our audience cannot connect with us isn't Lack of anointing, but lack of intelligence.

As a minister, you must understand that each Audience has its peculiarities. Hence, you will do well to acquaint yourself with the history, favorite songs, watchwords, dogmas, culture, leaders, and patriarchs of the audience you are to minister to. (At least at the basic level).
Paul became all things to all men, that he may save them. (1cor 9:19-21)
Paul observed the devotions and Altars of the Athenians, and he started his preaching from there (Acts 17:23).

Earlier this year, I got an invite to minister at a C & S gathering. So, I reached out to pastor Peter Jerry to send me some C & S songs and brief me on the Church's History. I also spent a good time watching some of the church content on YouTube. This enabled me to relate well with them and vice versa; it turned out to be a great session, and God was glorified.

Don't go and sing "Theophilus Sunday" to a predominantly older congregation.
A female Minister shouldn't because of knowledge uncover her hair when ministering in an orthodox setting.
Etc.

May God give us understanding.
