Today marks another significant milestone in the ongoing transformation of the Booker Washington Institute as we continue to restore the pride, dignity, and legacy of Liberia’s premier technical and vocational institution.

During the 97th Founder’s Day Celebration, our distinguished Founder’s Orator, Rev. Dr. Simeon L. Dunbar, made a heartfelt commitment to give back to the institution that helped shape his life. As a former Carpentry student in the General Building Trades Department, Rev. Dunbar reflected on a lifelong dream of becoming a nation builder a vision that continues to inspire his service to humanity.

True to his promise, Rev. Dunbar has launched the Think, Love and Build Liberia (TLB-Liberia) Unit-3 Dormitory Reconstruction Project, beginning with the official groundbreaking ceremony held today for the complete reconstruction of Unit-3, one of the four room boys’ dormitory buildings that was destroyed by fire decades ago and has remained in ruins since.

This project represents far more than the reconstruction of a building. It symbolizes hope, gratitude, responsible alumni engagement, and a shared commitment to restoring BWI to its rightful place as Liberia’s leading center for technical and vocational excellence.

Joining Rev. Dunbar during the groundbreaking ceremony were Rev. Dr. Ebenda F. Tambah, General Superintendent of the First Assemblies of God Church in Liberia and a proud member of the BWI Class of 1987, along with Mr. Stanley Gray, President of the Booker Washington Institute Alumni Association (BWIAA), Montserrado Chapter, and several members of the BWI family.

As Principal and Executive Officer of BWI, I remain deeply inspired by alumni who translate their love for this institution into meaningful action. I often say that I continuously search through my basket of Tigers, looking for those whose passion for BWI is matched by a willingness to serve. When I learned of Rev. Dr. Simeon L. Dunbar’s unwavering commitment to giving back, I knew I had found another true Tiger. Today’s groundbreaking is the fulfillment of that shared vision and a powerful reminder that together, our alumni can help rebuild the future of Booker Washington Institute.

On behalf of the Administration, faculty, staff, students, and the entire BWI community, I extend profound appreciation to Rev.Dr. Simeon L. Dunbar, the TLB-Liberia initiative, and all partners whose generosity continues to transform lives and strengthen our institution.

Together, we are not merely reconstructing a dormitory, we are rebuilding hope, preserving our heritage, and investing in future generations of Liberian youth.

As part of our commitment to preparing young Liberians for meaningful careers and lifelong success, Booker Washington Institute today hosted a comprehensive Career Guidance Session for prospective students seeking admission for the 2026/2027 Academic Year.

The session provided entrance candidates with valuable information about BWI’s academic and technical programs, career pathways, student life, and the many opportunities available through technical and vocational education. The objective is to help students make informed decisions about their future while encouraging them to pursue excellence, discipline, innovation, and leadership.

We were especially honored by the presence of the President of the Booker Washington Institute Alumni Association, accompanied by members of the Association’s Executive Committee. Their participation added tremendous value to the program as they shared inspiring personal testimonies of how their education and training at BWI transformed their lives and opened doors to successful careers in various professions.

Their stories served as powerful reminders that a BWI education is more than acquiring technical skills it is about building character, developing leadership, and preparing young people to become productive citizens and change makers in society.

END-OF ACADEMIC YEAR GENERAL STAFF MEETING HELD AHEAD OF LIBERIA’S 179TH INDEPENDENCE DAY CELEBRATION

Today, I had the privilege of meeting with the dedicated faculty and staff of Booker Washington Institute during our End of-Academic Year General Staff Meeting as we officially concluded another successful academic year and prepared to observe the 179th Independence Anniversary of the Republic of Liberia.

As we break for the Independence holiday, I encouraged every member of the BWI family to return home safely, spend meaningful time with their loved ones, and celebrate our nation’s independence with a deep sense of patriotism, responsibility, and pride.

I reminded our staff that while we may depart from campus for the holiday, Booker Washington Institute remains our common denominator the institution that unites us in purpose, service, and commitment to excellence. Our collective responsibility to uphold the values, reputation, and legacy of BWI does not end when the academic year closes; rather, it continues wherever we go.

I extend my heartfelt appreciation to every faculty member, administrator, and support staff for your unwavering dedication, resilience, and hard work throughout the academic year. Your commitment has been instrumental in advancing the mission of our institution and positively impacting the lives of our students.

Today, I had the distinct pleasure of welcoming the President Mr. Thompson Kafleh and members of the Executive Committee of the Booker Washington Institute Alumni Association (BWIAA) to my office for our first official partnership meeting. The engagement marked the beginning of what I believe will be a renewed era of collaboration between the BWI Administration and our vibrant alumni community.

The discussions were cordial, productive, and centered on practical initiatives that will strengthen the relationship between the Institute and the Association while advancing our shared commitment to the continued growth and development of Booker Washington Institute.

Among the key matters discussed was the establishment of a dedicated Alumni Association Office in Monrovia, which will provide the Association with a functional space to coordinate its activities and effectively engage its membership and partners.

We also deliberated on the creation of a separate bank account for the Alumni Association to enhance transparency, accountability, and the efficient management of resources dedicated to alumni programs and initiatives.

Recognizing the invaluable contributions of our graduates, we further agreed on the importance of creating a dedicated Alumni section on the official BWI website. This platform will showcase the achievements of our alumni, provide updates on Association activities, and serve as a bridge connecting BWI graduates across Liberia and around the world.

Most importantly, both the Administration and the Alumni leadership reaffirmed our commitment to fostering a strong, respectful, and collaborative working relationship founded on trust, open communication, and a shared vision for the future of our beloved institution.

I sincerely appreciate the President and members of the Executive Committee of the BWIAA for their constructive engagement and unwavering commitment to the Institute. Their passion for BWI is a testament to the enduring legacy of this great institution.

As we continue to reposition Booker Washington Institute as Liberia’s premier technical and vocational institution, we recognize that our alumni remain one of our greatest assets. Together, we will build stronger partnerships, create greater opportunities for our students, and preserve the proud legacy of Booker Washington Institute for generations to come.

Today, Monday, July 13, 2026, my heart is filled with gratitude as I witnessed another demonstration of faith, integrity, and commitment to the future of the Booker Washington Institute.

During our 97th Founder’s Day Celebration, our distinguished Keynote Orator, Rev./Dr. Simeon L. Dunbar, made a remarkable pledge to reconstruct Unit-3 of the Boys’ Dormitory. Today, he honored that commitment by visiting the campus for a final assessment of the existing structure ahead of the groundbreaking ceremony scheduled for Saturday, July 18, 2026.

I am deeply encouraged by Dr. Dunbar’s humility and vision. Rather than having the completed building named after himself, he has requested that it be called “BWI TLB-Liberia Unit-3” an enduring symbol of Think, Love and Build Liberia. This selfless gesture reflects his unwavering commitment to nation-building and to the transformation of young Liberians through quality education.

As Principal and Chief Executive Officer of Booker Washington Institute, moments like these remind me that God is continually at work through people of goodwill who believe in our mission. Standing before that old structure today, I could only hear the words of the timeless hymn echoing in my spirit:

“Blessed Assurance, Jesus Is Mine.”

Indeed, this is another testimony that when we place our trust in God and work together with committed partners, great things are possible.
