How to Improve Learner Discipline in a School
A child will only respect a boundary that exists — and only fear a consequence that is real.
If your school is struggling with learner discipline, the problem is rarely the students. It is the system — or the lack of one.
Here is how to fix it:
1. Set clear, written rules
Every learner must know exactly what is expected. Display classroom rules visibly. No rule = no accountability.
2. Be consistent in enforcement
The biggest discipline killer is selective punishment. If lateness earns a consequence today, it must earn the same consequence tomorrow — for every student.
3. Start discipline from Day One
The first week of a new term sets the tone for the entire year. Teachers who are soft in week one suffer all term.
4. Make consequences logical, not emotional
Punishment should fit the offense. Screaming at a child for lateness teaches nothing. A structured consequence — like making up lost time — does.
5. Involve parents early
Don't wait until a child is out of control before contacting parents. Early communication prevents escalation.
6. Reward good behavior publicly
Most schools only react to bad behavior. Publicly recognizing well-behaved students motivates others and shifts the culture.
7. Train teachers on classroom management
A disorganized teacher produces a disorganized class. Discipline begins with the teacher's own structure and authority.
8. Have a documented discipline policy
Without a written policy, punishment becomes personal and parents can challenge every decision. A clear policy protects the school and guides the staff.
9. Use assembly and moral instruction deliberately
Morning assembly is not just routine — it is a daily culture-shaping moment. Use it to reinforce values, not just announcements.
10. Follow up, don't just punish
After any disciplinary action, check back on the student. Discipline without follow-up is just punishment — not correction.
The truth is:
learner discipline is a reflection of school leadership. Where leadership is firm, fair, and consistent — learners respond in kind.
That is why I wrote these 12 policies for your school. Grab your school policies. Start your school right.

Two EJ Zion Students Drown in Sandpit in Ganta.
By: Matthew Konah and Nyah Flomo Jr.
Feb. 23, 2026
Ganta, Nimba County – Two pupils of EJ Zion Nursing and Junior High School in Ganta are reported to have tragically drowned in a sandpit on Monday, February 23, 2026.
The victims have been identified as seven-year-old Miracle T. Roberts and eight-year-old Enoch Coleman. Their bodies have been deposited at the Ganta United Methodist Hospital.
According to preliminary information gathered, the two children, along with another student who is yet to be identified, allegedly left the school premises during school hours and went to bathe in a nearby sandpit. It was during this time that the incident occurred, leading to their drowning. The sandpit is estimated to be a 5-minute walk from the school.
Some community dwellers, however, stated that students are not known to frequent the sandpit because of its distance from the school.
When our team visited the scene, no individuals were present, including those believed to be owners or operators of the sandpit.
Community members, who spoke on condition of anonymity, expressed shock over the tragedy, describing it as a painful loss for both the school and the wider Ganta community. Residents have also raised concerns about the safety hazards posed by abandoned sandpits, particularly those filled with water and left uncovered.
Authorities have yet to issue an official statement regarding the circumstances surrounding the incident. However, an investigation is expected to determine the exact cause of the drowning and whether any negligence was involved.
The incident has cast a somber mood over the city, as families, classmates, and residents mourn the loss of the two young students.

Good afternoon folks
DAY 4 – MORNING ASSEMBLY TALK
Topic: Integrity – Doing Right Even When No One Is Watching
Opening
Good morning respected teachers and my dear students.
Let me ask you a question: 👉 If nobody is watching you, will you still do the right thing?
This question brings us to today’s topic — Integrity.
What Is Integrity?
Integrity means being honest and upright at all times —
not only when teachers are watching, but even when you are alone.
A student with integrity:
Does not cheat in exams
Does not steal
Does not lie to escape punishment
Admits mistakes honestly
A student without integrity:
❌ Chèáts when no one is watching
❌ Lies to cover up wrong actions
Bible Quotes
📖 Proverbs 10:9
> “Whoever walks in integrity walks securely.”
📖 Luke 16:10
