The Liberia Renaissance Education Complex (LREC) was founded in January 2006 in the village of Duazon, about 20km east of Monrovia, the capital city of Liberia. LREC is a project of The DEAR Foundation in Switzerland. We strive to be a model school, using progressive teaching methods to deliver a diverse and hands-on curriculum. We keep class sizes small, so that we can focus on individual student needs and ensure that every child who comes through our doors receives a top education. They say it takes a village to raise a child, and we couldn't agree more. That's why we place a strong emphasis on community, encouraging parents to take an active role in their children's education, and teaching our students to pro-actively engage with society. "When we reconstruct a nation after the devastation of war or natural disasters, we should seek not merely to rebuild what once was, but to create something new that more truly approximates the very best possible." (Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, President of the Republic of Liberia)
