GBU Applauds President Boakai's Commitment as Government Pledges More Support for University Development
BUCHANAN, Grand Bassa County – July 25, 2026 – The Administration of Grand Bassa University (GBU) has commended President Joseph Nyuma Boakai for his unwavering commitment to the development of Grand Bassa County and the continued growth of the university.
Speaking on behalf of the university administration during a meeting with the President, the Vice President for Administration, Mr. Moses J. Y. Bull, expressed profound appreciation for the government's ongoing support. He highlighted several key interventions by the Boakai administration, including the procurement of a modern bridge expected to arrive in Liberia soon, the planned donation of two buses to Grand Bassa University, and the support provided by the Superintendent and members of the Grand Bassa County Legislative Caucus toward the university's academic operations.
Representing the student body, Acting Student President Ms. Wilfred Y. Peters presented a petition to President Boakai outlining several pressing needs of the university. The students appealed for the timely completion of the new bridge, a lasting solution to the persistent flooding affecting the GBU campus, and a partnership between ArcelorMittal Liberia and the College of Engineering and Applied Sciences to strengthen engineering education through technical and material support.
As a gesture of appreciation ahead of Liberia's 179th Independence Day celebrations, Grand Bassa University presented a cow to President Boakai as a July 26 goodwill gift, symbolizing the institution's gratitude for his leadership and commitment to national development.
In response, President Boakai thanked the administration, faculty, staff, and students of Grand Bassa University for the warm reception and thoughtful gesture. He reaffirmed his government's commitment to supporting the university and assured the GBU community that efforts would continue to improve the institution's infrastructure and academic environment.
The meeting concluded on a positive note, with both the university and the government reaffirming their shared commitment to advancing higher education and sustainable development in Grand Bassa County.
