Breathing consciously is the essence of yoga as it assists us in connecting with the subtle energy within. It is through breath that we find balance and connection between our body and mind, with positive effects on our mental, emotional, and physical state.

In surfing this translates to keeping calm on the water, stillness of the mind to be in the present moment. Better control of the breath helps with better paddling technique, improved capacity to sustain hold-downs and an overall more focused mind.

On mobility flexibility and strength: Strength is ones capacity to move. The ability to get into certain positions under certain circumstances. Flexibility is the access to ranges of motion. Look at strength as a skill; skill being the ability to apply that strength. Application of strength is what develops the skill; and the skill combined with capacity to move is what creates mobility.
