St. Anthony's College Wattala - 89 Group

The first ever big match of 82 years history of St. Anthony's College Wattala held 26th and 27th April 2024 in P. Saravanamuttu (Oval) Stadium Borella vs St. Joseph Vas Wennappuwa with the participation of college students, teachers, old boys and parents. This event was organized by the college Cricket Wing within a shorter period of one and half months is a commendable achievement.

Both teams were equal shoulder to shoulder according to the cricket officials before starting the match. But our college boys shown their superiority from each end, batting, bowling and fielding was on highest standard. Mast. Amitha Sandeepa was adjudicated as the BEST ALL-ROUNDER 🏆, MAN OF THE MATCH and the BEST BATSMAN 🏆 of the big match. And also we would be able to grab the trophy 🏆 given to the BEST FIELDER of the big match. By considering the cricket rules and first innings win by our college boys the Challenge Trophy was awarded to our proud alma mater St. Anthony's College by the Chief Guest.

Also we're proud to mention here that 89' batch was lucky enough to sponsor the trophy 🏆 given to the BEST BATSMAN who was non other than Mast. Amitha Sandeepa who led "ANTOS" to the most wanted victory was presented to the awardee by Gen. Chandimal Peiris, our beloved brother.

I take this opportunity to thank every Antonian who participated/not participated, send well wishes, contribute financially and support in many other ways to make this inaugural event a very very successful one.

Following decisions were taken during the meeting;
1. Settle the balance amount we owed to Dilruk
Members are kindly advised who can make contributions towards this can do so by depositing your respective amounts to our account maintained at HNB Wattala branch. For more clarifications contact Sujeeva or Anura
2. Former "fund" should be brought back to live
Our 89 group fund was held up for sometime and it should activate by making a nominal contribution by each member. The amount will be decided at the AGM
3. Bank account should be transferred to a more user friendly bank
4. 89 group 50th birthday celebration in next year
Plans have been made to celebrate each of us 50th birthday in next year with our beloved families with gala of events. This will be announced at the AGM and special committee will be appointed to look after the arrangements.
5. New office will be appointed at the AGM
6. AGM to be held in the month of October and the exact date will be announced in recent future
