Galileo Galilei (1564–1642) was a brilliant Italian scientist whose work transformed science forever. Born in Pisa, Italy, he first studied medicine but later shifted to mathematics and physics, where he found his true calling.

Galileo made groundbreaking discoveries in motion, gravity, and astronomy. He was the first to systematically use a telescope to observe the night sky, discovering craters on the Moon, the moons of Jupiter, sunspots, and the phases of Venus—clear evidence supporting the *heliocentric model* that the Earth orbits the Sun.

His support of Copernicus’ ideas brought him into conflict with the Catholic Church. In 1633, he was tried by the Inquisition and placed under house arrest for the rest of his life. Despite this, his writings spread across Europe and laid the foundation for modern scientific methods.

Galileo’s courage, curiosity, and commitment to evidence-based science earned him the title "Father of Modern Science." His legacy still inspires scientists and thinkers around the world today.
