The Great Sphinx of Giza As early as 1400 BC, Prince Thutmose who was on a hunting expedition stopped and laid down for a moment in the shade of the Great Sphinx. The statue was buried halfway in the sand. Prince Thutmose was working in a military base near the Egyptian capital of Memphis (near present-day Cairo).

He was so tired and soon fell asleep. Amazingly, the statue of Sphinx started to speak to the prince. The sphinx said that if the prince restored the statue he would be lucky enough to become the next pharaoh in Egypt.
