අද ලෝක ඔර්කා දිනය (World Orca Day)යි.

සාගරයේ බලවත්ම විලෝපිකයන් අතරින් පාර්ශ්වයක් වන Orca නොහොත් Killer Whale (Orcinus orca) සැබවින්ම තල්මසෙකු නොව, ඩොල්ෆින් පවුලේ (Delphinidae) විශාලතම සාමාජිකයා වේ. ඔවුන් ආක්ටික් සිට ඇන්ටාක්ටික් දක්වා ලෝකයේ සියලුම සාගරවල ව්‍යාප්ත වී සිටින අතර, සංකීර්ණ සමාජ ව්‍යුහයන්, ඉහළ බුද්ධිය, පරම්පරාවෙන් පරම්පරාවට සම්ප්‍රේෂණය වන දඩයම් ක්‍රම සහ සන්නිවේදන රටාවන් හේතුවෙන් සාගර ජීව විද්‍යාවේ විශේෂ අවධානයට ලක්වන විශේෂයකි.

එහෙත්, වර්තමානය වන විට ආහාර සම්පත් අඩුවීම, සාගර දූෂණය, දිගුකාලීන රසායනික දූෂක සමුච්චය වීම (persistent pollutants), නෞකා මගින් සිදු වන ශබ්ද දූෂණය සහ වාසස්ථාන වෙනස්වීම් වැනි ඍජු සහ වක්‍රව සිදු කරනු ලබන මානව ක්‍රියාකාරකම්වල බලපෑම් මගින් මොවුන් තර්ජනාත්මක තත්ත්වයට පත්වා ඇත. මෙම තත්ත්වය ඔර්කා විශේෂයට පමණක් නොව, සමස්ත සාගර පරිසර පද්ධතියේ සෞඛ්‍යයට ද බලපායි. එබැවින් ඔර්කා සංරක්ෂණය යනු ඉහළ මට්ටමේ විලෝපික විශේෂයක් පමණක් ආරක්ෂා කිරීම නොව, සම්පූර්ණ සාගර ජෛව විවිධත්වය සහ පරිසර සමතුලිතතාවය සුරැකීම සඳහා සිදුකරන ආයෝජනයකි.

මෙම ලෝක ඔර්කා දිනයේදී, විද්‍යාත්මක පර්යේෂණ, සාක්ෂි මත පදනම් වූ සංරක්ෂණ ක්‍රියාමාර්ග සහ සාගර පිළිබඳ මහජන දැනුවත්භාවය ඉහළ නැංවීම සඳහා අප සැමගේ දායකත්වය අත්‍යවශ්‍ය වේ. නිරෝගී සාගරයක් යනු සුරක්ෂිත ඔර්කා ජනගහණයකි. සුරක්ෂිත වූ ඔර්කා ජනගහණයක් යනු නිරෝගී සාගර පරිසර පද්ධතියකි.
