Yoshida Shokanji International School is located in a picturesque landscaped area in Sapugaskanda, Makola. Venerable Banagala Upatissa Nayake Thero, Chief Sangha Nayake of Japan and the Chairman of Mahabodhi Society of Sri Lanka and India, commenced operations of Yoshida Shokanji International School in the year 2000. The school now has more than 600 pupils from Nursery to Advanced Level, teaching
both National Curriculum as well as Cambridge Curriculum. YSIS is a unique educational establishment fostering Buddhist ethos and tradition whilst encouraging a multi-religious, multi-ethnic environment. It also conducts annual field trips, social activities and religious programmes. Moving ahead in the educational sphere, in keeping with its objectives, the school has already progressed action for the introduction of the Cambridge curriculum by commencing extensive training for teachers under the tutelage of a panel of instructors affiliated to University of Cambridge International Examinations Board, in addition to training them on Information Communication Technology by the Group Information Technology (GIT) Division. Plans are afoot to establish a vocational training center which should provide training courses in media and journalism, teacher training, Information Communication Technology, English, speech and drama, personality development amongst other subjects.
