Stepping Stones Montessori

In July 1983 Sri Lanka witnessed an anti-Tamil pogrom. This is considered to be the event that led to the outbreak of the civil war.

As this is a sensitive topic for young children, Stepping Stones Montessori helped the children understand what took place through activities and discussions.

If our children are to live in a peaceful and harmonious society, they must be taught the importance of understanding, accepting and respecting the differences in our country.

We started on our school veggie garden by preparing the beds to plant the different vegetable seeds and plants.

The students will continue to monitor and care for the garden in the weeks and months to come.

They are all looking forward to making a healthy and delicious meal with their first crop harvest

We invited our parents to accompany the child on a nature walk and collect an assortment of natural objects to create a picture.

The parents came to school and worked on their creative artwork with the child, which was then exhibited in the school dance hall

The World Environment Day is celebrated annually on 5 June and is the United Nations' principal vehicle for encouraging awareness and action for the protection of the environment.

The students at Stepping Stones Montessori engaged in a series of activities throughout the month to learn about the environment and appreciate the wonders nature has to offer us.

At Stepping Stones Montessori we encourage healthy eating habits. So today our little chefs put on their aprons to make rainbow sandwiches.

We use Seguin Boards as recommended in the Montessori method of education to learn the "ten" numbers from 10 to 99.
