As the Environmental Science Society, we successfully organized the orientation program for the new batch of the Faculty of Science, accompanied by an awareness session on waste management. 🍃

What began as an initiative by the former committee of the Environmental Science Society through the Waste Unit Replacement Project has now become a meaningful achievement this year, reflecting dedication, teamwork, and a shared passion for sustainability.

With improved waste segregation units in the Science Faculty common room, we are fostering a culture of care, responsibility, and respect for our environment—encouraging everyone to take part in protecting our planet through simple daily actions.

With pride, we unveil the new official logo of the Environmental Science Society, University of Peradeniya. ✨

Rooted in science, shaped by thought, and guided by interdisciplinarity, this logo represents who we are and how we understand the environment — as a system where biology, earth sciences, chemistry, physics, and social sciences coexist and interact.

What appears simple carries depth.
What appears symbolic carries science.
What appears visual carries meaning.

This marks a new chapter for our Society — one built on knowledge, collaboration, and responsibility toward the environment we study and protect.

The palette before the Emblem ☘️✨

The new logo of our Environmental Science Society is more than a visual identity — it is a story of how we see the environment.
Inspired by the Braille system, the logo is built using two Braille cells representing the letters “e” and “s” — Environmental Science. Each raised dot carries meaning, reminding us that knowledge is created through connection, not isolation.

The five coloured dots represent the five core disciplines that shape Environmental Science:

🌿 Forest Green — Biology and Nature

🟤 Liver Chestnut — Earth Sciences and Soil

🟡 Honey Yellow — Chemistry and Natural Water

🔵 Blue Morpho — Physics and Fundamental Interactions

🟣 Tyrian Purple — Social Sciences and Humanities

The remaining platinum dots symbolize balance — the unseen structures that hold everything together.

Just as letters gain meaning through the arrangement of dots, our understanding of the environment emerges only when all disciplines come together.
This logo reflects unity, inclusivity, and the interdisciplinary spirit that defines Environmental Science.

✨ The meaning comes first and the symbol follows.
