The Department of Geology organized a field visit to the Namal Uyana Rose Quartzite Exposure and Eppawala Carbonatite–Apatite Deposit in the Anuradhapura District on 01st August 2026, under the guidance of Dr. Prasanna Dharmapriya.

The field excursion provided second, third, and fourth-year undergraduates with an excellent opportunity to observe these unique geological occurrences firsthand and develop a deeper understanding of their mineralogy, petrology, and economic significance. The students also gained valuable insights into the geological processes responsible for the formation of these important mineral resources of Sri Lanka.

The Department of Geology remains committed to providing students with meaningful field-based learning experiences that complement classroom education and strengthen their understanding of geological processes and resources.

We extend our sincere appreciation to Dr. Prasanna Dharmapriya for his expert guidance throughout the excursion, and to the demonstrators for their invaluable support and assistance during the field visit.
