On November 09, 2023, the University Business Linkage (Technology Transfer Office) of the South Eastern University of Sri Lanka signed a Technology License Agreement with Serendib Organic Holdings Private Limited. This marks another successful technology license agreement of the University and is aimed at enhancing university-industry collaboration in green pest management by exchanging state-of-the-art know-how, expertise, training, and commercialization endeavors, improving agricultural logistics and processes for farmers, and promoting regional economic development.
Lepidoptera pests pose a significant threat to paddy, maize, sugarcane, and vegetable plantations globally, causing extensive crop damage, reduced yields, and economic losses for farmers. The larvae's voracious feeding results in stunted growth, reduced photosynthesis, and increased susceptibility to diseases. This jeopardizes food security, livelihoods, and sustainable agricultural practices, necessitating urgent measures for effective pest management.
Dr. ADNT. Kumara, a senior lecturer from the South Eastern University of Sri Lanka, addressed this challenge with his novel invention, Nanoemulsion Biopesticide Formulation. Harnessing plant essential oil extracts, the technology provides a groundbreaking, eco-friendly alternative to conventional insecticides. Its biodegradability, non-toxicity, and compatibility with integrated pest management promote sustainability. The formulation's unique features promise effective pest control while minimizing environmental impact, offering a significant advancement in environmentally conscious pest management for agriculture.
During this occasion, Serendib Organic Holdings Pvt Ltd, our esteemed industry partner, was officially conferred the license for the production, marketing, and sale of the Nanoemulsion Biopesticide Formulation. Further, the company played a pivotal role in advancing field trials and further enhancing the product.
The ceremony was presided over by Prof. (Dr.) A. Rameez, Vice-Chancellor of South Eastern University of Sri Lanka and the event was attended by various dignitaries, including the Deans of the Faculties/UBL Advisory Board, Bursar, Director โ OTS, Director โ UBL, Head of the Departments, the Inventor Dr. ADNT.
