End of a successful project !!! 🙏🙏🙏
**********************************
"Ask not what your country can do for you, but what you can do for your country – John F Kennedy"

🌳13 year old Kalindi Wanigasooriya brought the idea of helping the Wilpattu reforestation project carried out by the Sri Lanka Army. The main objective of her project was to raise funds to donate 1000 clay pots for the proposed clay pot irrigation system of Wilpattu forest reserve. The cost estimated was 2 lakhs.

🌳 To fulfil this idea we all got together and the project “මිහි මවට පුංචි අපෙන්” by Whyteleafe" was launched in August 2019. Director of Whyteleafe Mr. Nalaka Swarnathilaka guided us to plan the things by ourselves. After our project planning we started collecting funds using tills made by our 11 year old Whyteleafian Thanudi Kumaradasa. We collected funds in many areas including Colombo, Nugegoda, Borella, Kohuwala, Baththaramulla, Wellawatta, Bambalapitiya, Kolpetty, Gampaha, Kalutara, Kandy. We stepped into trains, busses, markets, offices, institutes too. Further several well wishes gave their generous contribution making us motivated through this mission.

🌳 With great enthusiasm and dedication of the team together with their leadership qualities, the project succeeded beyond expectations within a month. Surprisingly, the fund-raising surpassed expectations and rose to Rs 4 lakhs, instead of the targeted Rs 2 lakh expenditure for pots.

🌳 After purchase of those 1000 clay pots from Nochchiyagama area we handed them to Lieutenant Colonel Bhathiya Jayaweera, General Staff Officer -1 (Coord), 54 Division on 13th September 2019. The project “මිහි මවට පුංචි අපෙන්” by Whyteleafe" wouldn't have been completed in a true sense, without stepping into the affected area in Wilpattu. We went to Wilpattu and planted trees that were suitable for the dry weather. Then we buried 2 clay pots that can retain about 7 liters of water close to each plant, filled them with water and covered them with coconut shells.

🌳 We decided to donate the excess 2 lakhs collected to “Thuruliya wenuwen Api” program. In order to do this on 18th September 2019 we met the Lieutenant General Shavendra Silva at the Commander's office. Commander welcomed us and spoke to us in a fatherly tone and stimulated by presenting appreciative mementos to each of us and commended our thoughtfulness and act. Meeting the Commander who is a real leader and listening to him was a memorable experience.

🌳 The beauty is that the entire process of project initiation to ex*****on and eventually the completion was handled and managed by a set of small children. This could possibly be the first of a kind in Sri Lanka. We believe that this will be a trend setter and a good example for the children in our country. The journey until the completion of the project was a huge learning experience. What makes it priceless is that they won't get such an experience in the national school curriculum. We are blessed to learn these skills at Whyteleafe which is our wonder school.

🌳This marked the end of a successful project and we thank each and everyone who supported this worthy cause and without your help we wouldn’t go this far. We believe we all can be equally happy that we did a good cause to our mother Lanka. We are grateful to the Sri Lanka Army for their service to our mother nature and allowing us to be a part of it.

THANK YOU!!!! 🙏

She is a real star 🌟
She made all of us proud.

A 13 year old child, who just became a teenager, can be a challenge to any parent. In our rapidly changing society, children gather all sorts of information that could lead them astray. Therefore guiding a teenager along the appropriate path can become a complicated task for todays' parents.

Kalindi Wanigasooriya who falls into the above age group is a challenge not only to her parents but to everybody around her. But not in the way that most teenagers often do..

Kalindi is an inspiration to many; a child with extraordinary qualities and talents. She has been different ever since she was a toddler.

Joining the Whyteleafe Performing Arts Academy in 2015 was a turning point in her life. A child known for academic capabilities and creativity in art and craft, has now come a long way with Whyteleafe.

4 years at the Whyteleafe Academy has shaped her into becoming a child with an outstanding personality.
Kalindi is a versatile girl; talented in singing, acting, public speaking, debating and even entrepreneurship. It is apparent that she has excelled for her age, receiving many accolades from Whyteleafe over the years..

A trip to the Wilpattu Forest Range in June, accompanying her mother and fellow past pupils of her school, was to become an event that would eventually bring out capabilities in Kalindi that even she didn't know she had.

The Old Girl's Association of Sirimavo Bandaranaike Vidyalaya in Colombo visited Wilpattu to donate 1500 plants and other material required for the reforesting program of the SL Army.

After listening to the explanation given by Lt Col Manipura of Thalladi 54 Division, Kalindi understood that it is not easy to grow plants in the arid zone of Sri Lanka. She also learned that the army was planning to implement the Clay-Pot irrigation system, a method used in ancient times, to nurture new plants in Wilpattu.

Being a child who just turned 13, did not stop her from asking Lt Col Manipura whether she can volunteer to buy them some clay pots for this program. Amazed by the boldness of her personality, the Officers at Wilpattu agreed to support her willingness to supply clay pots.

With permission from Nalaka Sir to raise money to buy 1000 Clay pots, Kalindi introduced the idea to her fellow students at the Academy through a well-created presentation. It was not difficult for her to convince her friends to support this worthy cause as they too were nutured by Whyteleafe to go beyond boundaries to achieve goals.

Within a short time, Kalindi conducted meetings, gathered her friends, assigned duties among them and drew-up a complete project plan with the assistance and support of her mentor at Whyteleafe, Mr.Nalaka Swarnathilake.

Students of the academy went on roads, and covered almost every public place in Colombo, Kalutara and Gampaha collecting money. They walked into offices, companies and even government organizations where many of their peers would dare not go.
Kalindi with the help of many Whyteleafe kids and parents was able to successfully accomplish her mission within a month. This is possibly the fastest fund-raising program conducted by children in our country.

During this month, she showcased everything that has gone in to her soul by leading the group, staying calm, handling obstacles, solving issues, managing time, while also being in constant contact with the Officer-in-charge, Lt Col Bhathiya Jayaweera. Most importantly Kalindi never tried to get ahead of anyone else in her team. In today's society, even when a simple task is assigned, everybody wants to stand-out and be highlighted among the crowd. But this amazing young 13 year old did not show any interest in what her position was. She treated and respected every one equally.

Kalindi Wanigasooriya as a young girl should to be praised and highlighted for this achievement, and commended for her hard work and the commitment she displayed, towards completing a task that effects the whole nation.

We are very proud of you..
