On the 18th of September 2026, from 5:45 am onwards, the Vidura College Photographic Society embarked on an early morning Field Excursion to the scenic Beddagana Wetland Park. From misty boardwalks to rich biodiversity and raw natural light, our members spent the morning exploring practical nature and wildlife photography hands-on.

Vidura College โ€“ Colombo commenced the Third Term on 08th September 2026 with a serene religious program to invoke blessings for the new academic term.

The morning began with a devotional Mal Perahera to the sacred Kashyapa Bo Tree and Shrine Room, followed by religious observances conducted by Venerable Kotagamwelle Saranatissa Thero. The Venerable Thero administered Panchaseela, delivered an insightful Dhamma sermon, and led a Bodhi Pooja for the school community.

The event concluded with an address by the Principal, Mr. D.G. Sumanasekara, emphasizing commitment, unity, and positive values.

Wishing all students and staff a peaceful, productive, and blessed Third Term ahead.

The Infant Group of Vidura College โ€“ Maharagama Branch enjoyed a fun and creative sand-pasting activity based on the concept of โ€œshort.โ€

The children were given a picture of a short castle and were encouraged to paste sand onto it carefully. They enjoyed working with the sand and creating a beautiful textured picture while learning to identify something that is short.

This hands-on activity helped the little learners develop their fine motor skills, hand-eye coordination, concentration, creativity, and sensory awareness. It also made learning the concept of โ€œshortโ€ enjoyable and meaningful.

The children had great fun creating their sandy castles, making it a joyful and engaging learning experience.

The Infant Group of Vidura College โ€“ Maharagama Branch enjoyed a fun and creative colouring activity as part of their learning experience.

The children were given pictures of a short candle, a short building, a tall tree, and a tall giraffe to colour. Through this activity, they were introduced to the concept of โ€œshortโ€ and โ€œtallโ€ in an enjoyable and age-appropriate way.

The little learners enthusiastically chose colours and carefully coloured the pictures, developing their creativity, concentration, fine motor skills, and understanding of height.

It was a delightful learning experience where the children had fun while learning to identify and compare things that are short and tall.

As part of the Month of Literature celebrations, the Grade 3 students of Vidura College โ€“ Maharagama Branch visited the OLA Bookshop for an exciting and educational experience.

The visit provided the children with an opportunity to explore the wonderful world of books. They enthusiastically browsed through a variety of Sinhala and English storybooks, discovering interesting stories, characters, and colourful illustrations.

As part of the programme, the students selected and purchased Sinhala and English storybooks according to their interests. This activity encouraged them to make their own choices while developing a greater appreciation for reading.

The visit was a valuable experience that nurtured the students' love of books, imagination, vocabulary, and reading habits. It was a delightful way for the Grade 3 students to celebrate the Month of Literature and experience the joy of choosing and owning a book of their own.

Today, our Play Group children stepped outside the classroom and visited our school garden for a wonderful hands-on learning experience. They explored the vegetable garden and observed different plants, flowers, and fruits growing around them.

The children were especially excited to discover how a flower develops into a tiny brinjal fruit. They also observed long bean and winged bean plants, their flowers, and also a few fruits growing in the garden.

This simple garden visit helped our little learners understand how plants grow and where our food comes from. It also encouraged observation skills, curiosity, appreciation for nature, and an understanding of caring for plants and our environment.

A Wonderful Celebration of the Month of Literature
The Grade 2 students of Vidura College โ€“ Maharagama Branch celebrated the Month of Literature with an enjoyable and meaningful visit to the OLA Bookshop.

The visit gave the young learners an opportunity to step into the exciting world of books. With great enthusiasm, the children explored the shelves, browsed through colourful storybooks, and discovered many interesting stories and characters.

As part of the programme, each student had the opportunity to choose and purchase Sinhala and English storybooks. This allowed the children to select books according to their own interests while developing the habit of making independent choices.

The experience encouraged the students to appreciate books and understand the importance of reading. It also helped nurture their imagination, vocabulary, creativity, and love for literature.

The visit was filled with excitement, curiosity, and happy moments, making it a memorable way for our Grade 2 students to celebrate the Month of Literature.

The Nursery and Primary Section of Vidura College โ€“ Maharagama Branch successfully celebrated English Day 2026 on 14th September 2026. The event was a wonderful opportunity for our young learners to showcase their English language skills, creativity, confidence, and talents.

The programme was honoured by the presence of our Chief Guest, Principal Mr. D. G. Sumanasekara. The event was conducted under the guidance and support of the Vice Principal of Primary, Mrs. Swarnaki Wijenayake, whose encouragement and leadership greatly contributed to the success of the programme.

The children presented a variety of interesting and enjoyable activities. They spoke confidently about colours and shapes and demonstrated their understanding of English through a Grammar lesson. Their performances also included entertaining action dramas and lively nursery rhymes, which created a cheerful atmosphere.

The young learners also explored the fascinating world of space, sharing what they had learned about astronauts and planets. Another highlight of the programme was a colourful PowerPoint presentation on sea creatures, where the children introduced different creatures and shared interesting facts with the audience.

The programme provided our children with a valuable opportunity to use English in a practical, creative, and enjoyable way. Their performances reflected their enthusiasm, confidence, teamwork, creativity, and growing communication skills.

English Day 2026 was a memorable celebration of learning and talent at Vidura College โ€“ Maharagama Branch. It was truly delightful to see our young learners express themselves in English with such confidence and joy. The event was a wonderful reminder that learning a language can be both meaningful and fun.
