To be an integral part of our society, by providing the highest standards of Montessori education th In 2001 This Montessori began with just two children!
Rising Stars Montessori is located at 22 Huludagoda Road, Mt.Lavinia. A residential area in the suburbs of Colombo which is spread out over half an acre of land...
It was the brainchild of Mrs .Sweenitha De Alwis, who had a vision of starting up an establishment that offered the earliest form of education for the child in a secure environment with competent teachers as a service to the community.
Shortly that number increased to 20 by the end of the year and we had our first full class. Through the Dynamic guidance of Mrs. De Alwis Rising Stars blossomed over the next two years and had expanded to four classes with 120 students and 10 teachers. The passing away of Mrs. De Alwis in 2006 was a deep loss to us all, but her children Nimantha De Alwis and Surani Michelo have continued her legacy and together with the staff of Rising Stars have made it an Educational Institute of very high standards that will take care of your child’s education through Montessori and more. What we offer at Rising Stars Montessori is an Environment that the child finds friendly and accepting of each individual, a place to express himself freely and explore and develop his knowledge and skills. We have library facilities and toilets for practically all the class rooms. We have a large garden area in the front and behind with a variety of animals that the children enjoy very much. We follow the Montessori Method and work with children from ages two and a half to five. Our class rooms are fully equipped with all necessary Montessori apparatus and our class teachers are trained at the Maria Montessori Training Centre at St. Bridget’s Convent, the only registered A.M.I (Association Montessori International) training centre in Sri Lanka. Our main medium of teaching is English, and we insist on teachers using English in the class room at all times as the biggest request from most parents is that their child learn to be fluent in English. We also introduce the Sinhala or Tamil language to the children and even both on parent’s request. Three of our teachers are trained in special needs education and will do more work with the children who need extra help with their class work. We also have the day care facility run by one of our class teachers till 5:30 pm for the children who require it. We are now a Montessori with 200 children, seven class rooms and 24 teaching staff. We will continue striving to provide the best Montessori education for the child in a safe and secure environment that a child will find almost a home away from home. Our hours of work do not end at 12:00noon. We also offer art, elocution, and math classes after hours conducted by some of our teachers. These activities are not limited only to students of our Montessori but are also offered to any other children who are interested. Our aim is to develop confidence and a sense of responsibility and commitment to enable the child to make a constructive contribution to society.
