Development of novel bone fixators at UoM 04/01/2023

The Department of Mechanical Engineering of University of Moratuwa has successfully ventured into manufacturing biomaterials and bone fixators solely based on Sri Lankan resources. This work has been developed into three successful branches of research, which shows great promise for the development of the local and international Biomedical Engineering field. The research team has developed two bone fixator types reaching clinical trials and bone scaffolds comparable with human bone materials. These extraordinary research ventures have allowed the research team to collaborate with a reputed research team from Imperial College London. Furthermore, this resulted in the construction of translational research, successfully producing two Ph.D. scholars, and brought in financial aid to recruit more researchers, allowing the scope of the study to expand. All this hard work will surely bring about advancements in the Biomedical Engineering field, uplifting patient care and hope for a better quality of life.
