For the child from three to six, the development of the mind is directly connected to the development of the hand. It is important for them to touch, to build, and to manipulate objects that are three-dimensional. They need experience with concrete objects to aid their ability to perceive, to think, and to understand. Dr. Montessori saw this in the child and created materials to aid their process of development.
