SCHOOL HISTORY
Weera Keppetipola Central College was started in 1853 having 12 students . It seems that Akuramboda Central college was held at the premises of YON PALLIYA (mosque). After that this rural school was initiated by James Herath at Ehelepola village. This school was held at James Herath’s home. As a result of that a house located close to Akuramboda temple. Later the house was named as School House.
Then in 1925 a relation of Mr. James Herath, Mrs.Lewliyadda generously handed over a suitable land close to Olaganwatta road in order to build a school. It was suitable for girls. Now this premise was considered to be the oldest building. At the period of boys school was made at the premises of Akuramboda Kanista Vidyalaya.
Later 6th of January in 1941 this school became the First Central College in Sri Lanka. It is one of three Central Colleges established in 1941 by C. W. W. Kannangara Minister of Education in Sri Lanka. This incident took place during the Bernard Aluwihare (member of parliament).
Under the guidance of Mr T.B.thennakoon fulfilling all the infrastructure facilities . Further more , ancient college premises was inaugurated in 1958 having grades from 1 to 6 . this school was ordered to start by Mr. Wijayananda Dahanayake.
In 1985 this school premises change into army training camp. More ever all the resources were distributed to the neighboring schools. Due to this reason akuramboda junior school was started as a mix school having classes up to O/L section. Thus all the historical documents related to Akuramboda Central College was handed over to Akuramboda Junior School. After that according to the request of villagers Akuramboda Central College was reopened on 9 September 1991 in at the same location. After that this school was declared as a sports school by the education ministry.
