Zahira Youth Momentum

Zahira Youth Momentum Zahira Youth Momentum (ZYM) focused on guiding / creating various platforms for all Zahirians to dev They are all result oriented.

The proverb “ All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy” has acquired a lot of significance today. This is because today’s students are told to “Play less and study more!” Students today are forced to get very high marks and grades. Thanks to the high cut offs in most universities and colleges, when exams come around, students go through a hell of a time, leaving them no time for anything other than studies. The curriculum and syllabus fame is so vast that students don’t find time to pursue their hobbies seriously. Schools and colleges emphasize on students getting good grades and very high marks, all in a bid to get recognition! Students find school nightmarish because of all the pressure and anxiety. Why are we burdening them at such a young age? The realm of education is transforming from boon to bane, given the current circumstances! If it is slightly altered, from a broader perspective, it would be perfectly conducive. Gone are the days when students would happily play outside their classrooms! Now you can only see them poring over books or hooked to the Internet! Agreed, academics play a vital role in the students’ future. We are not of the view that academics must be neglected. It is important that we do well academically. Knowledge is one’s greatest possession. But that should not let the extra-curricular activities take a back seat! Both are equally important. They are needed for recreation. Otherwise, the very purpose of education stands defeated. In a country like Sri Lanka where the teacher spoon-feeding to the student is widely practiced but the whole education structure isn’t one that would help an individual in the professional environment. In today’s fast paced corporate world, a professional individual should be one with many faces and diverse range of skills. Hence what would be the point if a student spends 13-14 years of only cramming books, If he can’t face the ever changing world? ! And this is where Zahira Youth Momentum (ZYM) comes into play, at ZYM we expect the parents and teachers to help us to encourage students to participate in extra curricular activities. Our focus would be to guide/create various platforms for all Zahirians to develop their Extra Curricular Activities (ECA). In doing so we hope to help inculcate in students all kinds of skills needed for their professional survival while also helping them to hone their own set of talents and skills. While doing this we will strive to make sure the students balance their ECAs’ with their academics it should be mentioned clearly that ZYM would operate as Non-Profit Organization.
