Sri-Lanka is a country with a rich heritage and strong agricultural know how. Though the sector lacks a more modern outlook locally, the world has moved ahead with more sustainable farming practices with cutting edge Agritech. Innovations by Orel in collaboration with Faculty of Urban & Aquatic bioresources of University of Sri Jayewardenepura have successfully completed the pilot project of an IoT Based smart farming technology which has the capability of real-time monitoring of the farmlands as the sensor mediated automated monitoring system with continuous remote access to monitor the field conditions through IoT Analytics Platform. The key highlight in this development is the IoT based fertigation system which provide nutrients according to the plant’s requirement, which provides better yield in comparison to traditional faming methodologies that are currently used.

Innovations by Orel Signed a Memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Faculty of Urban & Aquatic bioresources of University of Sri Jayewardenepura with the aim of research collaboration on developing an IoT Based smart farming technology which has the capability of real-time monitoring the farmlands as the sensor mediated automated monitoring system with continuous remote access to monitor the field conditions through IoT Analytics Platform. This smart farming sensor-based technology would be the next revolution of precision agriculture towards the sustainable food production. This collaborative project was initiated by Dr. Surani Chathurika, senior lecturer, department of urban bioresources with Dr. Rangika De Silva, Director of Innovations Orel (Pvt.) Ltd.

Technology Innovation Support Center of the National Innovation Agency - Sri Lanka (TISC@NIA) successfully conducted an Intellectual Property Management session for OREL Corporation on 2nd August 2022.

The National Innovation Agency (NIA) is established as mandated by ACT, No. 22 of 2019 with the specific aim of promoting a better understanding of innovations in the fields of social, science and technology, defense, environment, and service, and their impact on the economy of the country.
