We are delighted to share that the SLIIT Library’s “SHEROES” project was presented as a poster at the IFLA World Library and Information Congress (WLIC) 2026 in Busan, South Korea, authored by Sandun Weerasinghe and Pushpamala Perera

The project celebrated the voices and journeys of inspiring female leaders at SLIIT, creating a platform to share their experiences, tacit knowledge, and life lessons with the next generation, with a focus on empowering young female students in the community. The initiative demonstrates how libraries can go beyond providing information to amplify women’s voices, promote inclusive learning, and inspire future leaders.
We are proud to see SLIIT Library’s work represented on an international platform and grateful for the opportunity to share our experience with the global library community.

The poster will be available in the IFLA Repository and the SLIIT Library web portal in due course.

Every Person Has a Story Worth Reading !

The Human Library Session held on 13 August 2026 at the Metro Library brought together 25 students and staff members for an inspiring afternoon of conversation and learning.

Our Human Book, Ms. Sumudu Chathurani Jayawardena , author, journalist, and lecturer, shared valuable insights from her personal and professional journey, sparking meaningful discussions and new perspectives.

Thank you to everyone who participated and made this Human Library experience engaging, insightful, and memorable.

We are proud to announce the successful launch of the SLIIT , an exciting new initiative designed to empower our students to explore the possibilities of Artificial Intelligence.
The SLIIT was officially launched virtually by Vice Chancellor Prof. Lalith Gamage, using a voice command, symbolising the power and potential of AI-driven innovation.
The ceremony was graced by the presence of our SDVC/Provost Prof. Nimal Rajapakse, COO, Deans, Directors, Heads of Departments, and distinguished members of the SLIIT community, making this milestone even more memorable. Dr Andrew Cox from the University of Sheffield, Convener of the AI Special Interest Group, delivered the guest speech.
This innovative system was developed by SLIIT Library staff member, Geethani Katugampala, who is a co-opt member of the AI Special Interest Group.
The is now open and accessible to the entire SLIIT community, providing a collaborative environment to learn, experiment, innovate, and create with cutting-edge AI technologies.
Our sincere appreciation goes to the SLIIT ITSD Team for their technical expertise, dedication, and support.
We also extend our heartfelt thanks to everyone whose hard work and commitment contributed to the successful launch of the AI Makerspace.
Together, we continue to shape the future of education through innovation.

The SLIIT Library was honoured to receive Professor Rebecca Walker, the newly appointed Pro Vice-Chancellor of Curtin Colombo, during her visit to the SLIIT Malabe Campus.
Her valuable insights on enhancing our Library Makerspace were greatly appreciated, and we look forward to exploring future collaborative opportunities with the Curtin Australia Library.
