🌿 Celebrating 32 Years of Dedicated Service 🌿

We proudly honour Mr. Roshan Nandari for his remarkable and dedicated service to Wayamba University of Sri Lanka.

Mr. Roshan began his service in 1981, during the period when the institution functioned as an affiliated university college. Later, in 1994, he became a permanent staff member of Wayamba University of Sri Lanka and continued his dedicated service, completing an admirable 32 years of service to the University.

He has served the Department of Plantation Management, Faculty of Agriculture and Plantation Management, as a Four-Wheel Tractor Operator, making a valuable contribution to the Department through his commitment, hard work, and unwavering dedication.

His long-standing service has been an integral part of the history and development of the Department and the University. His contribution, loyalty, and sincere service will always be remembered with great respect and gratitude.

Our deepest condolences on the passing of Dr. Anjana Atapattu, Acting Head of Agronomy Division of the Coconut Research Institute, Sri Lanka.

The 𝐃𝐞𝐩𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐨𝐟 𝐏𝐥𝐚𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐌𝐚𝐧𝐚𝐠𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭, 𝐅𝐚𝐜𝐮𝐥𝐭𝐲 𝐨𝐟 𝐀𝐠𝐫𝐢𝐜𝐮𝐥𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐏𝐥𝐚𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐌𝐚𝐧𝐚𝐠𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭, 𝐖𝐚𝐲𝐚𝐦𝐛𝐚 𝐔𝐧𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐨𝐟 𝐒𝐫𝐢 𝐋𝐚𝐧𝐤𝐚, in collaboration with the External Affairs Unit, successfully conducted an awareness session on Agriculture, Environmental Sustainability and Circular Economy Practices for 𝐏𝐥𝐚𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐄𝐱𝐞𝐜𝐮𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐒𝐭𝐚𝐟𝐟 𝐨𝐟 𝐇𝐨𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐚 𝐏𝐥𝐚𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐏𝐋𝐂 on 11th and 13th August 2026.

The sessions, conducted by Prof. W. J. S. K. Weerakkody and Demonstrators, combined theoretical knowledge with laboratory and field-based practical activities, including:

📝 Lecture on Soil Enrichment Practices in Sri Lanka
🔬 Laboratory practical session on biochar physical & chemical properties
🌿 Field practical session on biochar production and processing
🌱 Practical training on soil sampling techniques

📝 𝔽𝕚𝕖𝕝𝕕 𝕍𝕚𝕤𝕚𝕥 - 𝕄𝕠𝕦𝕟𝕥 𝕍𝕖𝕣𝕟𝕠𝕟 ℂ𝕋ℂ 𝕋𝕖𝕒 𝔽𝕒𝕔𝕥𝕠𝕣𝕪 𝕒𝕟𝕕 ℝ𝕒𝕕𝕖𝕝𝕝𝕒 𝔾𝕣𝕖𝕖𝕟 𝕋𝕖𝕒 𝔽𝕒𝕔𝕥𝕠𝕣𝕪

The students of the Department of Plantation Management had an insightful field visit to the up-country region of Sri Lanka on 31st July 2026, to enhance their knowledge on the processing of one of the major plantation crops, tea. 🌿🌿

During this visit, they observed the manufacturing of CTC tea at Mount Vernon Tea Factory and the production of green tea at Radella Tea Factory. The program was successfully guided by Prof. D.C. Abeysinghe and Dr. Surakshi Rajapaksha, providing the students with valuable exposure to practical aspects of tea processing. 🌿🌿

A field visit was successfully conducted on 10.07.2026 to the Rubber Research Institute of Sri Lanka to provide practical exposure to rubber cultivation and processing technologies for the third year undergraduate students of the Department of Plantation Management - Wayamba University of Sri Lanka.

Special thanks to Prof. Bandara Gajanayaka and Dr. Ruwan Chamara for their valuable guidance, coordination, and support in making this field visit successful.

Third year undergraduates of the Department of Plantation Management participated in a two day field visit to Kalawewa and Rajanganaya irrigation systems on 27th and 28th of July 2026, related to Advance Irrigation Management course offered by the Dept. Of Plantation Management.

Our heartfelt gratitude to Dr. H.A.W.S. Gunathilaka for coordinating this field visit and the Irrigation Department and Mahaweli Authority of Sri lanka for making this event a success.

The 𝐅𝐚𝐜𝐮𝐥𝐭𝐲 𝐨𝐟 𝐀𝐠𝐫𝐢𝐜𝐮𝐥𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐏𝐥𝐚𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐌𝐚𝐧𝐚𝐠𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭, 𝐖𝐚𝐲𝐚𝐦𝐛𝐚 𝐔𝐧𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐨𝐟 𝐒𝐫𝐢 𝐋𝐚𝐧𝐤𝐚, solemnly organized a 𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐞𝐦𝐨𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐃𝐚̄𝐧𝐚 𝐏𝐢𝐧𝐤𝐚𝐦𝐚 to mark the third-month remembrance of the Late 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐟. 𝐍.𝐄.𝐌. 𝐉𝐚𝐲𝐚𝐬𝐞𝐤𝐚𝐫𝐚, the Founding Head of the Department of Plantation Management.

The commemorative event was attended by academic and non-academic staff of the Faculty, members of Prof. Jayasekara's family, former colleagues, and well-wishers, who gathered to pay tribute to his enduring legacy and honour his memory with profound gratitude and respect.

May he attain the Supreme Bliss of Nibbāna.
