🌟 Grade 2 English – Apostrophes for Possession
An apostrophe (’) can show that something belongs to someone or something.
We usually add ’s to a singular noun to show possession.
✨ Examples
Cinderella’s glass slipper → The glass slipper belongs to Cinderella.
The giant’s sack of gold → The sack of gold belongs to the giant.
Tom’s pencil → The pencil belongs to Tom.
The cat’s tail → The tail belongs to the cat.
Mother’s bag → The bag belongs to Mother.
🧠 Remember!
Person/animal + ’s + thing
👉 Sara’s book = the book belongs to Sara.
👉 The dog’s ball = the ball belongs to the dog.
The apostrophe goes before the s.
girl → girl’s
boy → boy’s
teacher → teacher’s
rabbit → rabbit’s
