WE’RE HIRING — STUDIO ASSISTANT

Mount Studio | Analogue Film Developing Darkroom

Full-time position
5 days a week | 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.
Location: Maharagama, Colombo

We are looking for a passionate and committed individual to assist with studio operations, analogue darkroom work, and archival projects.

Ideal candidate:
• Interested in photography, art, and analogue processes
• Basic knowledge of Microsoft & Adobe software
• Good design sense and organizational skills
• Curious to learn vintage & alternative printing and archival practices
• Able to understand English / fluency in Tamil is an advantage

This role is best suited for a young creative eager to learn and grow within an active artist-run studio.

Today marks what would have been Noeline Fernando’s 80th birthday.
Though she is no longer with us, her presence continues to live through her work, her lines, her colours, and the histories she shaped.

As we work on archiving her life’s work at Mount Studio these days, we are reminded that some artists never really leave — they simply move into memory, material, and time.

From the archive to the digital present ✨

Sharing a glimpse from yesterday’s work—documenting and digitising the textile design sketches of Noeline Fernando. We’re currently undertaking the process of archiving her collections and creating a comprehensive digital catalogue from original materials.

The sketches varied in scale—most in A2 size, some much larger—along with actual designed fabric samples. Each piece required careful handling: ironing, gently unfolding, and photographing without causing any damage, especially since many of these works are already fragile with time.

Working on archiving projects like this is both challenging and deeply rewarding. Preserving design histories and making them accessible for the future is something we truly value—and we’re ready to undertake more archival projects like this.

We’re moving!
Mount Studio is shifting to a new home — a space with expanded studio and lab facilities, surrounded by the calm and beauty of the Borelesgamuwa Lake.

As we settle into this new environment, our regular studio activities will be on pause for the next few days. But from November 1st, Mount Studio will reopen — refreshed, reimagined, and open seven days a week.

Here’s to new beginnings, new light, and new creations by the lake.
