Indran Ajiththaman
Indran Ajiththaman (b. 2001) from Point Pedro, Jaffna, student at the Sir Ponnampalam Ramanathan Faculty of Visual and Performing Arts, University of Jaffna.
His photographic practice explores the body as a form of expression and a carrier of memory. Through gestures, movements, shapes and postures, Ajiththaman examines emotions and experiences such as love, loneliness, conflict, separation, understanding and togetherness—often exploring what the body can communicate beyond words.
His work extends beyond the human body to include architectural spaces, houses, walls and other built environments as bodies that hold traces of memory and history. Drawing from his childhood, village life, traditional practices, family stories and the social realities of his community, he explores how personal and collective memories continue to shape the way people understand themselves and the places they belong to.
His work also engages with experiences of social division and caste discrimination, particularly how family background, occupation and place of origin can influence the way a person is perceived and treated within a community.
Through photography, Ajiththaman brings together the personal, social and architectural body, exploring how bodies and places remember, carry experiences, and speak about histories that are not always visible.
