දරුවාගේ හඬ සොයා ගනිමු. දරුවන්ගේ කථන සංවර්ධනය අවබෝධ කර ගනිමු.
කථන සංවර්ධනය යනු දරුවෙකුගේ මුල් වර්ධන අවධියේ ඉතා වැදගත් සහ ආකර්ෂණීය කොටසකි. බිලිඳා මුල් වරට ශබ්ද නිකුත් කරන මොහොතෙන්ම ඔහුගේ හෝ ඇයගේ සන්නිවේදන ගමන ආරම්භ වේ. කථන සංවර්ධනය යනු දරුවන්ට භාෂාව අවබෝධ කරගැනීම, ශබ්ද නිකුත් කිරීම, වචන සෑදීම සහ අවසානයේ තම සිතුවිලි හා හැඟීම් ප්රකාශ කිරීම ඉගෙනගන්නා ක්රියාවලියයි.
ජීවිතයේ පළමු වසර කිහිපය තුළ දරුවන්ගේ කථන හා භාෂා හැකියාවන් ඉතා වේගයෙන් වර්ධනය වේ. බිලිඳුන් මුලින් “බා”, “මා” වැනි සරල ශබ්ද නිකුත් කරමින් කථනය ආරම්භ කරති. සාමාන්යයෙන් අවුරුද්දක් පමණ වන විට දරුවන් පළමු අර්ථවත් වචන කීම ආරම්භ කරති. වයස වැඩි වීමත් සමඟ ඔවුන්ගේ වචන සම්භාරය වැඩි වන අතර කෙටි වාක්ය සෑදීමටද ඔවුන් ඉගෙනගනී.
