Rasara Wijesuriya Qualifies for 5000m Finals at World University Games with Record-Breaking Performance
Rasara Wijesuriya, a third-year undergraduate of the Faculty of Science, University of Kelaniya, pursuing a BSc Honours degree in Sports Science, has qualified for the finals of the womenβs 5000m event at the World University Games 2025.
She clocked a personal best time of 16:00.30, marking the second-fastest 5000m performance ever recorded by a Sri Lankan woman. This remarkable achievement not only showcases her individual dedication and talent but also highlights the growing strength of athletics at the University of Kelaniya.

Sayuri Mendis Shines at Rhine-Ruhr 2025 FISU World University Games
Sayuri Mendis (SS/2021/051), a third-year undergraduate of the Faculty of Science, University of Kelaniya, following the BSc Honours in Sports Science, delivered a strong performance at the Rhine-Ruhr 2025 FISU World University Games β Summer, finishing 6th in the semi-final of the Womenβs 400 metres with a time of 54.26 seconds.
She advanced to the semi-finals by placing 3rd in her heat with an impressive time of 53.75 seconds, showcasing her outstanding speed, determination, and potential on the international stage. The University of Kelaniya proudly congratulates Sayuri on this commendable achievement and wishes her continued success in her sporting career.
