We were honoured to welcome the President of the Institution of Structural Engineers (IStructE), Scientia Professor Brian Uy, and CEO Ms. Jasmine Becker, to our Department on 28th July 2026.

๐Ÿ“š Prof. Brian Uy delivered an insightful guest lecture on "IStructE Presidential Themes for 2026 and the Behaviour and Design of Next Generation Steel and Steel-Concrete Composite Structures for Buildings and Bridges" โ€” offering our students and staff a global perspective on the future of structural engineering.

๐ŸŒ Ms. Jasmine Becker followed with a session on "Introduction to IStructE," highlighting the value of professional membership and pathways for students and academics to engage actively with the institution.

The visit also opened the door to promising conversations on future engaements between IStructE and the Department of Civil Engineering, University of Moratuwa.

During the week-long residential camp, our civil engineering undergraduates applied their surveying skills to execute a real-world design project.

Through teamwork and fieldwork, the students successfully moved their engineering knowledge from the classroom to a practical project. Alongside the technical skills, it was a week of bonding that built lifelong memories and friendships.
