We are delighted to announce a new research collaboration between INSEE Lanka and the UoM Architecture, University of Moratuwa, on unlocking carbon market potential in the building construction industry, with a focus on the cement industry.

This collaborative research project is supported by the University of Moratuwa Senate Research Council Grants and marks the beginning of a long-term partnership between academia and industry, which will be formalized through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). As part of the project, Ms. Bhagya Ranaweera will pursue her MPhil, while Ms. Rashmini Priyashantha will undertake her MSc research under the grant. The research is jointly supervised by Dr. Nadeeka Jayaweera ( of Architecture) and Dr. Chathura Kovida De Silva (Department of Urban Informatics and Planning), reflecting an interdisciplinary approach to advancing research, innovation, and practical solutions to contemporary challenges.

We extend our sincere gratitude to Mr. Thusith C. Gunawarnasuriya (CEO) and Dr. Moussa Baalbaki (Director, Products and Solutions Portfolio) of INSEE Lanka for their invaluable support and commitment to fostering industry–academia collaboration. We look forward to working together to generate impactful research that contributes to the sustainable development of Sri Lanka.

We are honored to share that one of our students was selected as a shortlisted participant for the Kurula Varkey Design Forum ( KVDF ) 2026, hosted at CEPT University, as part of its 25th anniversary edition.

Out of 175+ outstanding thesis projects from across South Asia, this project, ‘Reclaiming Power’, was selected as one of the final 20 to be exhibited and discussed at the forum.

The forum brings together some of the region’s most compelling final-year projects, creating a platform for meaningful dialogue among students from diverse architectural schools, alongside leading academicians and practitioners from around the world. Structured around selected thesis projects, the discussions extend beyond individual work to address broader questions and concerns relevant to the architectural fraternity.

The Architecture 21st Batch, in collaboration with the Architecture Student Society, proudly presented "Ahala Balan" — a reimagined retro-themed musical evening that blended nostalgic charm with a fresh, new concept. Held with great success, the event brought together students, staff, and alumni in a vibrant celebration of music and creativity. We are excited to share glimpses from this memorable night that showcased the artistic talents and dynamic energy of our department.
