The Deadline to submit application for School Science Program 2018 has been extended until 9th of July 2018 due to postal strike.

National Institute of Fundamental Studies (NIFS) under the ministry of Science, Technology and Research will be held its 45th Annual School Science Program (SSP) from 7th – 10th August, 2018 at NIFS premises, Hantana Road, Kandy. This program is aiming to motivate younger students in doing scientific research on his/her future carrier. The progrmme which is organized by Science Education & Dissemination Unit of NIFS will consist of lectures ,demonstrations and activities and will be conducted in English medium.

150 students will be selected for this program. Students who have passed the G.C.E.O/L Examination in 2017 with 9 Distinctions in the first attempt and currently studying in the A/L science stream are eligible to apply for this program. Application forms could be obtained from the school principle, through NIFS web site ( www.nifs.ac.lk) or by sending a stamped self-addressed envelope to the Head, Science Education & Dissemination Unit, National Institute of Fundamental Studies, Hantana Road, Kandy on or before 28th June, 2018.

The duly filled application form should be sent individually to above address on or before 5th July, 2018.

Workshop on Scientific method for School children in Haguranketha 22/05/2018

Science Education & Dissemination Unit of NIFS conducted a one day workshop on Scientific method for School children in Haguranketha Educational Zone, Kandy at NIFS premises on 18th May 2018. The workshop was ornamented with the main speech by Dr.Kumari Thilakarathne, Head, SEDU on Scientific method and thereafter individual and group discussions were done with children to improve research proposals which they have submitted earlier for district level competition. SEDU thanks with honor to Dr.Ruvini Liyanage, Prof.Dhammika Magana Arachchi & Prof.M.C.M.Iqbal for their commitment to review research proposals submitted by school children.

VIDU NENA DASUNA is a Sinhala science youtube channel which help students who are studying for science specially for G.C.E (O/L) & (A/L). The Channel consists of practical demonstrations of lessons in science syllabus and video lessons of different interesting topics for students.
