African swine fever (ASF) 🐷

“Protecting Pigs, Protecting Livelihoods & Fighting ASF Together”

African swine fever (ASF) originated in Africa and spread globally, with significant outbreaks in Sri Lanka since 2024 , is characterized by symptoms like high fever, loss of appetite, skin hemorrhages, and sudden death in pigs.

The virus, which is fatal to pigs but *harmless to humans* , causes severe economic losses and threatens national food security through trade restrictions and culling.

To avoid its spread, farmers must practice strict biosecurity, including restricting access to farms, controlling feed sources, practicing hygiene , and reporting any suspected cases immediately to respective authorities.
