Classes we started on 05th February 1981 at “Sipsathara” on preadeniya road were restricted to G.E.C. (O/L) and to maths , science , arts and commerce subjects of advance level . As students of our institute showed higher results in the years 1981,1982 and 1983. our institute become a renowned institute in central province. Most of our Students Got university entrance. having completed the univ
ersity education they have become very distinguished persons. So it’s a big success our institute achieved. Its with grate pleasure we mentioned that most of our lectures , then are senior lectures at universities now and some are employed abroad. Our institute possesses the honour of holding classes for a few ordinary lavel and advanced level subjects in collaboration with British council kandy. In 1992 as space was not adequate at sipsathara to expand classes. It was shifted to “Navodaya Institute at D.S.Senanayaka Street Kandy. After that the name “Sipsthara” changed into “Navodaya”
In 1992 when Dr.Rohana Laxman Piyadasa was invited to join our institute . He suggested me that an external degree programme was to be started in Kandy. That time , when the university of Peradeniya held the monopoly of doing external degree courses. It is a giant challenge to start an external degree course for a far away university. But facing those challenges successfully, We started the first institute in Sri Lanka for external degree course of Kalaniya University with a panel of well qualified lectures. The external degree which was started with a few students in the first year could be developed to 600 students in three years. Today 20 subjects are taught for external degrees at our institute. It’s a Pleasure to inform that our institute has produced thousands of graduates and become the greatest institute for external degrees in the island. And also the graduates originated from our institute holds very high position in the state sector as well as private sector. Navodaya Education Centre has well equipped six storied building including libraries, internet facilities, audio visual tools etc. There fore we decide to start course for new story fields other than external degree course.
