Meet Arshad Ahmed — a remarkable example of growth, leadership, and the transformative power of U.S.-supported learning opportunities through the partnership.

Arshad’s journey with American Corner Kandy began as a participant in the Cybersecurity Free Three-Month Certificate Course, where he built a strong foundation in one of today’s most critical fields. His dedication and passion soon led him to become an active Youth Forum member, and later, a proud Youth Forum alumnus.

Currently pursuing a MSc in Computer Science at Wrexham University and holding a BSc (Hons) in Computer Science (Cybersecurity & Networking) from Lincoln University, Arshad has translated his academic knowledge into professional excellence. Today, he serves as a Cybersecurity Engineer at Scybers, a U.S.-based company, contributing to securing digital systems in an increasingly connected world.

Arshad’s journey comes full circle as he became the first Youth Forum alumnus to step into the role of facilitator at American Corner Kandy. Giving back to the same platform that shaped him, he has conducted impactful training programs, including a Basic IT Certificate Course for Entrepreneurs and a specialized IT training program for officers of the Fire Service Department at the Kandy Municipal Council.

Continuing his commitment to youth empowerment, Arshad has also facilitated Youth Forum trainings in 2025 and 2026, focusing on AI and Cybersecurity—equipping the next generation with essential digital skills for the future.

His story reflects how access to opportunity, combined with dedication and a spirit of giving back, can create a lasting impact in building resilient and tech-driven communities.

Arshad’s journey stands as a powerful reminder of how innovation, education, and community engagement can shape future leaders in Sri Lanka. 🇺🇸🇱🇰✨

Building AI responsibly starts with the right leadership.

Our AI Governance and Responsible Innovation Workshop for Entrepreneurs at American Corner Kandy, conducted in collaboration with GRC Navigator, brought together 35+ forward-thinking participants ready to navigate the future of AI with confidence.

Led by Anuradha Ranaweera, CEO & Founder of GRC Navigator, the session introduced participants to the NIST (National Institute of Standards and Technology) AI Risk Management Framework—a globally recognized U.S.-developed approach for identifying, assessing, and managing AI-related risks within organizations.

Through practical insights, participants explored how organizations can move beyond traditional structures to integrate responsible AI governance, ensuring innovation is both impactful and ethical.

💡 The highlight? Participants designed their own AI governance structures and pitched them—turning knowledge into action through a highly interactive and hands-on experience.

This wasn’t just about understanding AI—it was about leading innovation responsibly, minimizing risks, and building future-ready organizations.

The future of AI demands leaders who are not only innovative, but also accountable and ethical—and that journey starts here.

Ready for the future of work?

Our recent Career Readiness & Workforce Competitiveness workshop, organized by the United States - Sri Lanka Fulbright Commission and led by Dr. Robert DeFinis, inspired participants to rethink their approach to success in today’s rapidly evolving job market.

From embracing AI as a partner rather than a replacement, to understanding the importance of upskilling with in-demand, future-ready skills, the session encouraged participants to stay curious, adaptable, and proactive. 💡

Dr. DeFinis also highlighted the value of becoming solution-driven individuals—those who create opportunities rather than problems—while making the most of American platforms like Coursera and LinkedIn to stay competitive and relevant.

The future belongs to those who are ready to learn, unlearn, and relearn.
