Lyceum Leaf Kaduwela - Preschool

Our little ones at 𝗟𝘆𝗰𝗲𝘂𝗺 𝗟𝗲𝗮𝗳 𝗦𝗰𝗵𝗼𝗼𝗹 𝗞𝗮𝗱𝘂𝘄𝗲𝗹𝗮 were thrilled to learn about our rich cultural heritage during the 𝗦𝗶𝗻𝗵𝗮𝗹𝗮 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗧𝗮𝗺𝗶𝗹 𝗡𝗲𝘄 𝗬𝗲𝗮𝗿 𝗰𝗲𝗹𝗲𝗯𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀—one of the most meaningful events of the year. The atmosphere was filled with laughter, excitement, and joy as the children explored the traditions and customs of Avurudu.
Throughout the celebrations on the 9th and 10th of April, the children experienced the true spirit of the festival by loving, sharing, and caring for one another. It was heartwarming to see their enthusiasm as they participated in activities that reflected our cultural values and brought everyone together as one community.
The Avurudu celebrations at Lyceum Leaf Kaduwela were not only joyful but also a beautiful opportunity for our young learners to connect with their heritage in a memorable and meaningful way.

Our 𝗟𝗼𝘄𝗲𝗿 𝗡𝘂𝗿𝘀𝗲𝗿𝘆 𝗰𝗵𝗶𝗹𝗱𝗿𝗲𝗻 𝗮𝘁 𝗟𝘆𝗰𝗲𝘂𝗺 𝗟𝗲𝗮𝗳 𝗦𝗰𝗵𝗼𝗼𝗹 𝗞𝗮𝗱𝘂𝘄𝗲𝗹𝗮, demonstrated wonderful learning during the Modes of Transport activity, exploring important road rules and safety practices through hands-on experience.

The teachers creatively transformed the garden into a mini road setup, complete with a pedestrian crossing, traffic lights, and clearly marked roadways. This realistic environment allowed the children to experience how roads function and understand how to behave safely when using them.

The children learned to:
- Use the pedestrian crossing correctly
- Recognise and respond to traffic light signals
- Follow basic road safety rules
- Understand the importance of waiting, looking both ways, and crossing safely

Through role-play and guided participation, the children acted as pedestrians and vehicle users, gaining first-hand experience while practising road rules in a fun and meaningful way.

This engaging activity not only enhanced their awareness of transport and safety but also supported their social and listening skills, as well as their ability to follow instructions. It was a joyful and educational experience that helped our young learners understand how to be responsible road users from an early age.

Our children of Lyceum Leaf Kaduwela stepped into a magical rainy-day adventure! Dressed in their colourful raincoats and holding their tiny umbrellas, the children eagerly experienced the joy of “rain” created lovingly by their teachers.

What a beautiful sight it was to see laughter, giggles, and pure excitement filling the school as the children splashed, walked, and explored the rainy play setup. This hands-on experience allowed them to feel, observe, and enjoy the wonders of nature in a safe and playful way.

Moments like these create joyful memories while helping children learn through real-life experiences. The happiness on their faces reminded us that learning can be fun, meaningful, and full of discovery.

𝐋𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐓𝐚𝐛𝐥𝐞 𝐌𝐚𝐧𝐧𝐞𝐫𝐬 — 𝐀 𝐆𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐌𝐞𝐚𝐥𝐭𝐢𝐦𝐞 𝐄𝐱𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞

Our pre-grade students at Leaf School – Kaduwela enjoyed a special Table Manners Day, where mealtime became a meaningful learning experience. The classroom was arranged like a dining setting, and teachers demonstrated how to sit properly, use cutlery correctly, and enjoy a meal with good manners.

Children were excited to take part in this hands-on activity. With plates, spoons, forks, and a simple meal, they practised how to hold cutlery, scoop food neatly, chew with their mouths closed, and sit calmly while eating. Teachers first modelled the correct behaviour, and then the children confidently demonstrated what they had learned through practice.

This activity helped children understand that mealtime is not just about eating, but also about developing important life habits that they will use every day.

𝐒𝐩𝐥𝐢𝐬𝐡 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐒𝐩𝐥𝐚𝐬𝐡 — 𝐖𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐏𝐥𝐚𝐲 𝐅𝐮𝐧!

On a bright, warm day, our little learners had the most joyful time during water play. The laughter, excitement, and happy splashes filled the air as the children dipped their hands and feet into the cool water. With cups, containers, and floating toys, they explored, poured, filled, and splashed to their hearts’ content. The hot weather made it the perfect opportunity for the children to enjoy this refreshing sensory experience while learning through play.

Water play is not just fun — it is a rich learning experience that supports many areas of development in young children.
It was truly a “splish and splash” day filled with smiles, discovery, and meaningful learning!

Our little learners in Lower Nursery took part in a fun and interactive activity using shape-based road paths. The children explored different shapes such as circles, squares, rectangles, and triangles while moving toy vehicles along the roads.

This activity helped to develop their fine motor skills, hand-eye coordination, and shape recognition. The children were excited to take turns, share, and actively participate with their friends.

It was wonderful to see their curiosity and teamwork as they navigated the roads and learned through play!

The Lower Nursery students turned into mini scientists this week during an exciting nature hunt in the school garden

Armed with their magnifying glasses, the children explored the outdoors to find our “Wiggly Neighbours” in their natural habitats. This hands-on experience was a wonderful way to spark curiosity and sharpen their observation skills as they discovered the tiny wonders of the world around them

6 March 2026 was a delightful reminder that every little step counts towards big achievements. Seeing our little ones take part with such excitement highlighted their energy, courage, and blossoming confidence. A day full of cheers, laughter, and true sportsmanship – our young stars of Lyceum Leaf School Kaduwela - Upper Nursery didn’t just play, they truly shone and stole the spotlight!
