Orientation Programme – Outboard Motor Mechanic (NVQ Level 03) Training

The Jaffna Regional Centre warmly welcomes all students to the Orientation Programme and encourages them to make the fullest use of this valuable opportunity to pursue the Outboard Motor Mechanic (NVQ Level 03) Training Programme.

This Programme for the 9th Batch of the Outboard Motor Mechanic (NVQ Level 03) Training Programme was held today, 17 August 2026, at the Jaffna Regional Centre of the Ocean University of Sri Lanka.

A total of 19 students from various Divisional Secretariat Divisions are participating in this training programme. It is particularly noteworthy that female students are also participating with great enthusiasm, adding a special and encouraging feature to this programme.

The orientation programme serves as an introduction to the students to the training structure, course objectives, practical activities, safety procedures, discipline, and career opportunities available in the marine and mechanical sectors.

Throughout this training programme, students will be provided with opportunities to develop professional knowledge and practical skills using modern technological methods in the maintenance, servicing, troubleshooting, fault diagnosis, and repair of outboard motors. These skills will help them enhance their employability and pursue future career opportunities in the field.

The Jaffna Regional Centre wishes all students every success in their training and looks forward to seeing them develop into skilled, competent, and professionally qualified Outboard Motor Mechanics in the future.

இந்த மதிப்புமிக்க வெளியிணைப்பு இயந்திர பொறிவலர் (NVQ - L 03) பயிற்சிநெறியின் வாய்ப்பை முழுமையாக பயன்படுத்திக்கொள்ள இந்த ஆரம்ப நிகழ்வுக்கு அனைத்து மாணவர்களையும் யாழ்ப்பாண பிராந்திய நிலையம் அன்புடன் வரவேற்கின்றது.

9ஆம் அணியினருக்கான வெளியிணைப்பு இயந்திர பொறிவலர் (NVQ -L 03) பயிற்சிநெறியின் ஆரம்ப நிகழ்வு 17.08.2026 இன்று இலங்கை சமுத்திர பல்கலைக்கழகத்தின் யாழ்ப்பாண பிராந்திய நிலையத்தில் இடம்பெற்றது.
இப் பயிற்சிநெறியில் பல்வேறு பிரதேச செயலகப் பிரிவுகளிலும் இருந்து 19 மாணவர்கள் கலந்துகொண்டிருப்பதுடன் பெண்கள் ஆர்வத்துடன் இப்ப பயிற்சிநெறியில் கலந்துகொண்டிருப்பது குறிப்பிடத்தக்க விசேட அம்சமாகும்.

இந்த அறிமுக நிகழ்ச்சி, மாணவர்களுக்கு பயிற்சி அமைப்பு, பாடநெறி நோக்கங்கள், நடைமுறை செயல்பாடுகள், பாதுகாப்பு நடைமுறைகள், ஒழுக்கம் மற்றும் கடல் மற்றும் இயந்திரத் துறைகளில் உள்ள தொழில் வாய்ப்புகள் ஆகியவற்றை மாணவர்களுக்கு அறிமுகப்படுத்தும் ஓர் நிகழ்வாகும்.

இப் பயிற்சிநெறியின்போது மாணவர்கள் எதிர்கால த்தில் தொழில்வாய்ப்புக்களை பெற்றுக்கொள்ளும் வகையில் வெளியிணைப்பு இயந்திரத்தின் பராமரிப்பு, சேவை, இயந்திரத்தின் பிழைகளை கண்டறிதல் மற்றும் திருத்துதல் ஆகியவற்றில் நவீன தொழில்நுட்ப முறையில் தொழில்முறை அறிவு மற்றும் நடைமுறைத் திறன்களை வளர்த்துக்கொள்ள உதவுகின்றது.

Communication & Presentation Excellence Workshop

With the aim of enhancing professional communication and presentation skills, students of MLM Batch #4 participated in a half-day “Communication & Presentation Excellence” Workshop.

The session focused on building confidence, strengthening effective communication skills, and equipping students with the cardinal principles of professional business presentations. Through practical and engaging activities, participants were encouraged to communicate with greater clarity, confidence, and professionalism.

A valuable step towards developing confident communicators, effective presenters, and future professionals.

A awareness Program for school students under the Madhu Education Zone was held today, 4 August 2026, at Adampan Maha Vidyalayam, Mannar.
The program was organized by the Madhu Education Zone for students studying in schools within the zone. Officers of Jaffna Regional Centre of Ocean University of Sri Lanka participated in this event and provided students with information and guidance on the academic courses offered by the Regional Centre.

💦🪸 Field Visit to Valaippadu Sea Cucumber Farms🌱

As part of the Basic Technology for Sea Cucumber Culture short course, our students successfully visited the Valaippadu Sea Cucumber Farms to gain practical exposure to sustainable coastal aquaculture.

During the visit, students observed various sea cucumber farming practices, identified habitat variations, and learned about the legal and regulatory aspects of sea cucumber culture. They also engaged in valuable discussions with local farmers and relevant fisheries officers regarding current challenges and best management practices.

A special highlight of the visit was exploring the seaweed farming community, where students were inspired by the active involvement of women in seaweed cultivation, processing, and community-based livelihoods. They also learned about seaweed export practices, value chains, and the significant economic opportunities created through sustainable seaweed farming.

🌿 This field visit provided an excellent opportunity to connect classroom learning with real-world aquaculture practices while promoting sustainable coastal livelihoods.

💦🪸 வலைப்பாடு கடலட்டை பண்ணைகளுக்கான களப்பயணம் 🌱

கடலட்டை வளர்ப்பின் அடிப்படை தொழில்நுட்பங்கள் குறித்த குறுகியகால பயிற்சி நெறியின் ஒரு பகுதியாக, எங்கள் மாணவர்கள் நிலைத்தன்மை கொண்ட கடலோர நீரியல் வள வளர்ப்பைப் பற்றி நடைமுறை அனுபவம் பெறும் நோக்கில் வலைப்பாடு கடலட்டை பண்ணைகளுக்கு வெற்றிகரமாக களப்பயணம்
மேற்கொண்டனர்.

இந்தக் களப்பயணத்தின் போது, மாணவர்கள் கடலட்டை வளர்ப்பு முறைகளை நேரடியாகக் கற்றறிந்ததுடன், பல்வேறு வாழ்விட வேறுபாடுகளையும் அவதானித்தனர். மேலும், கடலட்டை வளர்ப்பிற்கான சட்டம் மற்றும் ஒழுங்குமுறை அம்சங்கள் பற்றியும் அறிந்துகொண்டனர். அதோடு, உள்ளூர் கடலட்டை பண்ணையாளர்கள் மற்றும் மீன்வளத் துறை அதிகாரிகளுடன் தற்போதைய சவால்கள் மற்றும் சிறந்த முகாமைத்துவ நடைமுறைகள் குறித்து பயனுள்ள கலந்துரையாடல்களிலும் ஈடுபட்டனர்.

இந்தக் களப்பயணத்தின் சிறப்பம்சமாக, கடற்பாசி வளர்ப்பு சமூகத்தைப் பார்வையிட்டது அமைந்தது. அங்கு, கடற்பாசி வளர்ப்பு, பதப்படுத்தல் மற்றும் சமூக அடிப்படையிலான வாழ்வாதார நடவடிக்கைகளில் பெண்கள் ஆற்றிவரும் முக்கிய பங்களிப்பு மாணவர்களை பெரிதும் ஊக்குவித்தது. மேலும், கடற்பாசி ஏற்றுமதி, அதன் தொடர்ச்சியான மதிப்புக் கூட்டல் மற்றும் நிலைத்தன்மை கொண்ட கடற்பாசி வளர்ப்பின் மூலம் உருவாகும் பொருளாதார வாய்ப்புகள் பற்றியும் அவர்கள் அறிந்துகொண்டனர்.

🌿 இந்தக் களப்பயணம், வகுப்பறைக் கற்றலையும் நிஜ வாழ்க்கை நீரியல் வள வளர்ப்பு நடைமுறைகளையும் இணைக்கும் சிறந்த வாய்ப்பை வழங்கியதுடன், நிலைத்தன்மை கொண்ட கடலோர வாழ்வாதாரத்தை ஊக்குவிக்கும் அனுபவமாகவும் அமைந்தது.

Farewell Ceremony for the National Diploma in Aquaculture and Aquatic Resource Management(NVQ - L 05) Students.

The farewell ceremony for the students who successfully completed the National Diploma in Aquaculture and Aquatic Resource Management course was held at our Regional Centre. The event was graced by the presence of the Assistant Director and all the officers of the Centre, who joined in celebrating the occasion and extended their heartfelt congratulations and best wishes to the students.

The successful completion of an important chapter in your educational journey and the beginning of a new chapter filled with opportunities for higher education and professional careers. The knowledge, technical skills, and practical experience you have gained through this diploma programme will serve as a strong foundation for making meaningful contributions to the development of the aquaculture and aquatic resources sector of our country.

We were deeply honored to host Prof. Dr. K. Kathiresan of Annamalai University, who shared his invaluable expertise on mangrove ecosystems with our students, instructors, and stakeholders at the Ocean University of Sri Lanka – Jaffna Regional Centre.

His inspiring session was both enriching and thought-provoking, providing our learning community with deeper insights into the ecological, environmental, and economic importance of mangroves. We sincerely thank Prof. Dr. Kathiresan for his energetic engagement, passion for knowledge sharing, and meaningful interaction with our students.

What made the visit even more special was his willingness to collaborate with our academic staff on future research initiatives, paving the way for stronger academic and research partnerships between Ocean University of Sri Lanka – Jaffna Regional Centre and Annamalai University.

As part of the Basic Technology for Sea Cucumber Culture Short Course, participants of the Ocean University of Sri Lanka – Regional Centre, Jaffna immersed themselves in an intensive hands-on training session, mastering net mending and sea cucumber farm setup under real field conditions.

Through this practical experience, participants strengthened their technical competencies, teamwork, and confidence while gaining first-hand exposure to sustainable sea cucumber farming techniques. Every knot tied, every net prepared, and every step in the farm setup marked another milestone in their journey toward becoming skilled aquaculture professionals.
