Bandaranayake National School is located in the calm, spacious and lush environment close to the Kurunegala - Chilaw Main Road, spreading through in a 15 acre area in the ancient kingdom of Panduwasnuwara in the North Western Province named as Parakramapura during Polonnaru Era. nerable Hendiyagala Sri Selarathana Thera on March 7, 1985 and the first principal was the late P.M. Somathilaka Herath. In 1999, this school was promoted as a National school by the former President Chandrika Bamndaranayake Kumaranathunga. At the beginning there were only 205 students and 10 teachers. Today it has developed nearly 2000 pupils and 150 academic and nonacademic staff. The school stands strong and proud amongst the other leading schools in the province. Gamini Rathnayake, the present principal strives to keep the development of the school moving by shouldering the challenges in a changing environment. Somathilaka Herath (1985-1988), P.M. Somarathne (1988-1993), R.M. Ranbanda (1993-1995), B.M. Kularathna (1995-2014) and S.H.M Kamal Chandrasena (2014-2016) were the proud principals who served this college so far. Kularathna has served in Panduwasnuwara National School for more than 18 years. During that era, his untiring efforts, determination and the courage has led the school towards its present glory. The school motto says : ”Pagnna Pajjothan Dhareiya”(Nana Pahana Dalwannna) Panduwasnuwara S.W.R.D Bandaranayake National School has excelled in its academic activities. The 98% Sinhala medium and 100% Bilingual stream results of the 2011 O/L examination clearly shows the excellent performances of the students. This school has all the facilities for the students to gain successful education. Panduwasnwara S.W.R.D Bandaranayake National School is a 1AB school which has facilities to offer four subject streams, Science, Commerce, Arts and technical subjects for the G.C.E (A/L) Examinations. Bilingual Education is given to the students from Grade 6 to Grade 11 with a qualified and well trained panel of staff. In 2011, 100% bilingual students showed their colours in the G.C.E (O/L) Examination. Annually many students get admitted to universities to complete their higher studies. The school Development Society, Old Boys’ Association and the well-wishers are remembered gratefully for their contribution within a short period of 30 years. This school has gained a phenomenal success in recent years. A success commemoration function will be held on March 7, 2015 to celebrate this success.
